Chapter 25- Fun in the Snow

The Jeep flew off the dirt road, bouncing and vibrating from the rough terrain, and Emmett's driving didn't help. By the time we reached the clearing my knuckles were white from clenching onto the seat so much. As we came to a standstill Jacob and Emmett jumped from their seats within seconds, leaving Ness and I shaking in the back seats. I could see the rest of our family congregated close by and they quickly came to the jeep, my door flew open, it was Jasper that helped me from the seat as Edward helped Ness, we almost looked like we were in shock. "What did you do to the poor girls" Esme scolded towards Emmett and Jacob who were laughing hysterically, I took the chance to look around the clearing, surrounded by trees like Alice had said, one side of the clearing rose high above the other side making an almost 65 degree angle. Still in the arms if Jasper I saw a pile of objects where my family were stood before we arrived, sledges, a basket and a bag packed with blankets. I smiled as I thought about how they remembered that Ness and I could get cold and hungry.

While my mind thought about my loving family, suddenly I had a vision of a snow ball hitting me square in the face, I smiled to myself as I ducked out of Jaspers hold just as a snowball flew past where my face should of been, in the same movement I grabbed a ball of snow and threw it back in that direction, hitting Emmett right in the mouth surprising him. Everyone laughed at Emmett and thats when a full on snowball fight started. Emmett's surprised face turned to one of pure mischief, in the next second another snow ball was headed my way, I managed to duck again but it carried on to hit Jasper in the face. Within another few seconds everyone was throwing snow balls. I saw Emmett get hit a few more times and then Edward gave Bella a snow bath, Jacob and Ness where making snow angles, Esme and Carlisle were stood by me using the Jeep as a shield, Rosalie, Jasper, Alice and Nick were all ganged up on Emmett, to the point I couldn't even see him through all the flying snowballs, though I could still hear him laughing.

I caught sight of Nick throwing snow balls towards Emmett with a huge childish grin on his face, I quickly picked up a lump of snow and tossed it towards Nick who was standing about 30 metres away and it hit him in the side of his face, surprising him. He quickly turned his attention to me. By this point, Jasper, Alice and Rosalie also had stopped throwing snowballs and were laughing at Nick with Emmett's laughter booming in the background. Nick quickly gave me a devilish grin and started sprinting towards me "now she's in trouble" shouted Emmett through his laughter then he quickly started throwing more snow towards Rose. As I saw Nick running towards me my heart quickened and I disappeared around the jeep running away from him.

I had the biggest smile on my face possible as I ran, I knew I could easily outrun him but I decided to give him a chance. Halfway up the hill he caught my leg and sent me tumbling towards the ground on my front, I screamed a childish scream, laughing as I fell. I quickly rolled over to see him towering over me holding a huge ball of snow. I screamed once again which was cut off by the huge amount of snow landing on my face. I quickly sat up attempting to make the snow fall off and beamed a smile at Nick to show him I was alright, he held out his hands towards me and I took them, in one swift move I was on my feet with the remainder of the snow falling to the ground. On the slope like this I was eye to eye with Nick, the same height for once. As we looked at each other we heard another scream followed by giggles which gained our attention, turning to face our family at the bottom of the hill I saw Emmett with Ness over his shoulder, the rest of our family were either throwing snow balls protecting Emmett or trying to get Ness back. I smiled and turned to look at Nick "I suppose I had better go and help Ness" I said with another smile. He nodded at me "and I suppose I should try and stop you" he said with another childish grin on his face, and with that I started to run down the hill with him on my heals "I'm coming to help you Ness" I shouted gaining the attention of Jasper and Edward who were helping to protect Emmett from the family members trying to get Ness back. They quickly turned towards me in a playful attack position as I ran straight for them.

Over the next hour we continued to play in the snow, winning back Ness several times, at one point Ness got annoyed that it was always her being taken which resulted in Emmett attempting to take me, which ended up in me taking Emmett. He wasn't too happy about being taken hostage by a hybrid but it was a great laugh. When we finished throwing snowballs and mine and Ness' hands where the same temperature as the snow and our other family members hands, we were ordered by Bella and Esme to change gloves and warm up before we went sledging. We went over to the jeep and were handed a cup of hot chocolate, at this point I started to shiver a little as did Ness. "I take it this is where I come in" Jacob said with a proud grin on his face, he then quickly took Ness and I under each arm using his own body warmth to warm us up, and it worked. Within no time I had stopped shivering and finished my hot chocolate and was ready to go sledging.

As we all made our way up the hill I lost my footing slightly and slipped down a few steps, suddenly my feet left the ground and I was being carried the rest of the way, as we reached the top I smiled at Emmett and said "thanks" and mockingly punched him in the arm, sending him back a few steps, we both laughed. Everyone agreed that Ness and I would be first so I climbed onto the sled with Ness behind me, looking straight ahead I could see the tips of the trees, the hill looked really steep from this point of view and I started to have second thoughts, that's when Emmett pushed us off sending us gliding down the hill. The unexpected start made Ness and I scream as we clutched onto the side of the sled. The next few seconds were exhilarating and before long the sledge came to a stand still, I stood up and helped Ness up both giggling like small children. Then we turned to wave at our family who all waved back. That's when I heard a roar of an engine, snapping my head round I saw a black pickup park next to Emmett's jeep and out got Blake, Adam and a few of their friends.

I saw Blake's face light up when he recognised me at the bottom of the hill, he came jogging over and embraced me slightly, "hey" he said with a massive grin on his face. I smiled back at him "hey yourself" I said jokingly. In the background I could hear my family members talking, the humans would not be able to hear them but I could "why are they here" I heard Emmett snap, "I didn't see them" I could hear Alice's voice was stressed probably because she hasn't had a vision of them coming. As I heard my family members talking about having to act normal I looked at them in an apologetic way and then turned my attention back to Blake "I'm sorry if we have intruded on on your family's fun, it's just this is the best sledging hill around" Blake said with a small smile, I smiled back at him and said "no, it's fine" with a smile. At my response Blake's friends all cheered in the background as they grabbed their sledges and made their way up the hill towards my family who were getting ready to go down the hill.

After another hour of sledging, I had gone down the hill several more times with other members of my family before I decided to go and and sit by the cars because I started to feel tired, I reassured my family that I would be fine watching them all having fun, I sat down in one of the folding chairs that Esme had thought to bring and watched as my family members cascaded down the hill and then made their way-at human speed-back up the hill. Then I saw Blake heading towards me as he climbed off his sledge, he came down and sat next to me. "Fancy a walk?" He said in a deep voice gesturing towards the trees, I looked at him and nodded, as I stood up I looked at my family members who all looked like they were having fun so I decided not to bother them and just go.
