"Guys, this is from Denmark's diary," Pope gained their attention.
After school, the Pogues went back to find Kie and tell her all about Mr Sunn's findings and what the Pogues had realised about the Royal Merchant and the Cross.
"August 15th set sail for Port-au-Prince on calm seas. Cam upon the Spanish ship San Jose on fire. The entire deck was aflame. And we could hear the screams of men trapped below. The Spanish captain cared about only one thing, his valuable cargo, the Cross of Santo Domingo, and countless bars of gold," Pope readout.
"Once the cargo was on board, we went to help the crew, but Captain Limbrey ordered us to pull bayonets and not to let any of the Spanish crew on board. He robbed them and left them to die," Pope finished.
Pope leaned against the beam next to John B and Kie, Aria was sitting on the edge of the couch JJ was laying on with his feet up resting on her thighs.
"So it didn't go down off Bermuda," JJ confirmed.
"And it was a Limbrey stealing shit again," Kie commented.
"This diary proves that both the gold and the Cross of Santo Domingo were on the Royal Merchant," Pope pointed to the diary.
"Well, both it's not there now," Aria sighed.
"What?" Kie looked at her confused.
"When we got the drone and went down to the Merchant, I'm pretty sure it would have picked up on a seven-foot cross, and shit," Aria explained.
"Why didn't we find it in the well then?" JJ asked based on Aria as he flicked his lighter between his fingers. The rest of the Pogues looked at JJ confused so he sat up properly and turned to them. "I mean, if Denmark was able to get this, like, bedazzled cross off of the Merchant to shore, why didn't he just hide it with the gold?"
"Because it was too big," John B realised, JJ sighed as he laid back down with his legs on Aria's again.
"You're right," Pope pointed. "He had to hide it someplace else,"
"But where?" Kie asked.
"Right before he was hung, Denmark said he'd buried the treasure at the foot of the angel," Pope looked around the group.
"Wait, I thought this was about the key?" JJ wondered.
"Right. So what's the connection?" Kie added.
"The path to the tomb begins in the island room," Pope quoted.
"But what is the island room?" Kie threw her head back with an extravagated sigh.
"Yeah, and where?" Aria continued.
"You know what helps me figure shit out?" JJ spoke as he sat up again then stood up.
"Oh boy. Here we go," John B sighed.
"I'm not sure what this idea is gonna be, but I think I'm gonna like it," Aria smiled slightly.
Kie made a questioned gesture, urging him to tell but she rolled her eyes as well. JJ looked to Pope who had an eyebrow raised telling him to inform the group.
"Smoking beer and drinking weed," JJ told. Aria pressed her lips together and squinted at the boy slightly. "The ideas just pour out of me," John B picked up the multiple beer cans taped together.
"If we just sit here and try to figure this out, we're gonna get nowhere. But if we get creative and go to this bonfire tonight, maybe we get somewhere," JJ explained as he picked up another bunch of beer cans together.
