Oliva
I paced the living area anxiously as I awaited Jason's return. About an hour after leaving, Russ called, telling us that he found Jason and would take him to the ER to have his wrist looked at. He told us that he was in pretty bad shape, mentally and physically. Jason was drunk out of his mind when Russ found him and hardly recognizable.
All I could do was anxiously pace ever since Russ told me he was on his way ten minutes ago. No sounds other than the tapping of my slippers against the wooden floors could be heard as I focused on trying to keep my nerves in order.
Cassie ended up going back to her place to pump milk for Grayson, only because I nearly forced her out of the door to do so. She insisted on bringing her stuff over or having me wait over there, but I honestly needed some time to just think in silence. The silence was becoming a little too long at this point.
Thankfully just moments later, I could hear the lock rattling from the front door. I halted myself, staring right at the door, feeling my heart nearly skip a beat when the two of them walked in.
Jason looked awful. His hair was rustled all over his head, and there were large bags under his eyes. His hand was now wrapped in a dark blue cast, so I could assume that I was right about it being broken.
"Here he is." Russ sighed, patting Jason on the shoulder. "I'll leave you guys to it. Cassie and I are here if you need us." He said before letting himself out of our apartment.
Then it was just Jason and I, and as I stared at him, he stared at the floor, avoiding eye contact at all costs.
"Jase?" I whispered, taking tiny, hesitant steps toward him until I was about arm's length away.
"What happened, baby?" I asked, reaching out to touch him, but he flinched back as if my touch had burned him.
Jason shook his head and sat down on the sofa, burying his face in his uninjured hand.
"Are you going to say anything?" I asked, walking over to him once more.
This time irritation peeked through my tone. I was getting irritated with him, he disappeared into the night without telling a soul, and now he was giving me the silent treatment?
When he remained silent once more, acting as if I wasn't talking to him, I snapped, feeling my patience hit its limit.
"Okay, what the hell is wrong with you?" I asked sharply, folding my arms across my chest as he inhaled deeply. "You disappear into thin air, and now you won't even talk to me? Jason?"
"I needed space." He murmured at a volume that was barely audible.
His eyes flickered up, meeting mine as he spoke, sending a spine-chilling glare my way.
"Space?" I repeated, shaking my head, "It didn't occur to you that maybe you should tell me you needed space before you vanished?!"
"Olivia, stop." He warned, holding his hand up, but I swatted it back down, catching him completely off-guard.
"You left without your phone or wallet! I woke up terrified when I didn't see you next to me!" I yelled, frustrated beyond belief. "I know you're going through a lot, Jason, and I'm sorry, I am, but dammit, you can't just up and leave like that! You don't get to do that and then tell me to stop."
Jason ran his fingers through his hair, pulling at the ends as he grew frustrated with me.
"So you have nothing to say?" I asked.
Jason shrugged his shoulders as he stared directly at me with an expressionless face.
I let out a chuckle before throwing my hands up in the air, ultimately defeated. If he wasn't going to talk, I wasn't going to force him. I'd give him all the space he wanted.
