Olivia

Right before my eyes, Daniel was standing in the driveway of my home, his mouth and nose were both badly bloodied, but a wicked smile was still plastered on his face. I covered my mouth in horror as my eyes scanned across the scene in front of me. My dad had definitely done that to him. He stood with his fists clenched. I could tell he was breathing heavily by the way his diaphragm dramatically moved.

The icy cold air blew through my hair, making me shiver even harder than I already was from the nervousness and fear that had overcome me.

How the hell did Daniel get out of jail? He was in on a first-degree felony charge which held a nearly $200,000 bond. Who in the world would pay that much to get him out of jail until the trial, which was about a week away? Maybe his family?

The entire few years that we dated, he didn't speak of his family much. I only met them once when we went out to dinner. I knew they were rich, but not that rich.

My mom turned back when she heard me shuffling over to them. Terror was written all over her face. "Get in the house, Olivia!" She screamed. "Right now! Go!"

She had her tiny arms wrapped around one of my dad's biceps, trying her best to calm him and restrain him from taking another leap toward Daniel.

"Olivia! Listen and go back inside!" My dad yelled. His voice was so deep with anger it frightened me. "I don't want you anywhere near him." He spat, eyeing Daniel in disgust.

Even though I knew I probably should have just gone back into the house, my legs found themselves continuing to slowly walk over to the three of them standing tensely in the driveway.

Daniel smiled almost satanically when he saw me approaching and took a step toward me. My dad broke free from my mother's grip and shoved Daniel to the ground before rushing over to him to give him even more.

"Daddy, stop!" I yelled, rushing over to him and grabbing hold of his arm, trying to pull him back as he kicked Daniel in the stomach.

"Get up and fight me, you little bitch." He spat. "You want to beat up on a tiny girl and set her on fire, but you won't defend yourself against me, huh?" He continued, completely outraged at this point. "Not so tough now, are you?!"

"Oscar, stop it!" My mom begged, helping me pull him away from Daniel. He was struggling to get up from the ground.

"Olivia, I just wanted to talk to you." He choked out before spitting scarlet red blood into the white snow beneath him.

"I'll kill you if you take another step toward my daughter." My dad spat, trying to launch toward him once more, but my mom and I held him back, pleading for him to calm down.

Daniel laughed and shook his head. "You're not threatening me, Mr. Owens, are you?"

"You're damn right I am, you-"

"Daddy, stop it." I pleaded, cutting him off before turning to look at Daniel.

He had the audacity to smile at me, causing my blood to boil.

"Why'd you come here?" I asked shakily, willing myself not to drop a tear in front of him. He wasn't going to get any more from me.

Daniel furrowed his eyebrows as if he was confused as to why I asked that question. He was really a sick bastard if he thought that what he'd done was no big deal.

"Olivia, I love you, and you need to understand..." He trailed off. "I overreacted to the texts you sent me because you said you were going to leave me."

I stared at him hard, biting down on my bottom lip to keep it from quivering. "How could you say that you love me?" I asked, forcing myself to be firm. "You tried to kill me." I spat, pointing an accusing finger at him. "You don't try to kill the people you love, Daniel!"
