Katherine stood at the base of the monument. There it was, the last thing left of Sokovia, a statue. At the base of it, it said, remember what was and we shall never forget. The statue was placed where Novi Grad once stood. This was the place where Ultron had killed innocent people.
She could remember that day clearly. Alice had gone after Katherine to tell her the news. Then, she saw it, Ultron tearing the city apart. The only people on her mind were her family. Even though her dad said, they were safe. In the end, it did not matter. Everything was destroyed.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Bucky approaching her. He stopped by her side, not too far but not too close. Keeping her eyes on the memorial, she said, "I don't suppose you bothered to visit the memorial?" Hearing the lack of response, Katherine got her answer. "Of course not, why would you?" she added.
Even though there was a memorial in front of her. Katherine could still see the city. All of the buildings and the church that stood in the middle. How much life Sokovia used to have.
"You know, I've been here everyday and it still doesn't get easier. My country is gone, it doesn't exist anymore... Before it could even get a second chance it was torn apart by its neighbors. Now all that's left is this statue."
Katherine took in the view of the memorial, as it would probably be her last time to ever see it again. Turning to Bucky, she sighed. The two could never get away from each other. Somehow they always found themselves together or against one another.
"So, you found me, know what? Because I'm not going back to prison." she said.
Bucky looked down at the ground before looking at her. It was like he was gathering strength for his following words and actions.
"I'm here to kill you, Katherine."
Those words did not exactly surprise Katherine, but they made her chuckle. It was just unusual to hear that from Bucky. But the tone made him sound serious.
"I think you rather fuck me than kill me..." Then Katherine paused. She took in his reaction, which there was not one. Shit, maybe he is really here to kill me. Even if he was, could he really do it?
Bucky looked at her dead in the eye and said, "You're a murderer."
Those words made Katherine angry. He had no right to go and tell her she was a killer. Especially when he was the exassassin. Bucky was acting like he has not even killed people without Hydra's control.
"So are you." she spat back. He really crossed a line with Katherine. "They literally programed you to kill." They were not the nicest of words, but it got her point across.
Pulling out his gun, Bucky showed Katherine he was serious. This is where it all ends. Just him and her, together, as it should be.
Seeing the gun in his hand made Katherine realize she would not make it out of this. For some reason, she was okay with that. In a way, she had grown tired of the running and the constant gamble of her life. Sure she had the title of Baron and Power Broker, but she was okay with losing it all.
Plus, she never saw Bucky letting her go. Katherine was supposed to choose him, but instead, she chose herself. Now, these are the consequences of her actions. It was either die or prison. Katherine would rather die.
Even with the view of death, Katherine could not help but think Bucky did not have it in him to kill her. Just as she was not able to. Maybe it was the same for him. Because he loved her.
"You won't shoot me, you love me too much." she said.
Hearing those words from Katherine made Bucky lift the gun up. Now it pointed at her. He wanted to prove he was going to do it. There were no other options.
