IT'S COMPLICATED

🥀

» » VIOLETS WORDS ECHOED like pebbles in a well inside Edith's mind, and she could barely fathom what she'd heard. Maybe she shouldn't have been as taken aback as she was in that moment, the pair had been seeing each other for quite sometime now, after all. It was only a matter of time before they put a label on their relationship. Despite this, Edith couldn't help but feel a weight in her stomach.

"Congratulations", she shifted her gaze between the two of them, finally catching Fred looking back at her. She tried to identify what the look he gave her meant, as his eyes bore into hers. He looked slightly nervous, a noticeable frown on his face.

"Thanks", Violet beamed, swinging her arms around Fred's neck and kissing the side of his face. "I was beginning to think Freddie here was more nervous than me about asking, but last night he did, and thank Godric for that".

He asked her, Edith thought. Not the other way around.

"So, Edith - fancy catching up?", the sound of Violets charismatic and kind voice made Edith feel slightly guilty about her feelings towards the red head. She seemed so happy, and somehow Edith didn't want to be the cause of her breakdown. Despite this, she couldn't help but feel like this was all for the best. After all, what happened between her and Fred was a mistake. A massive one, and she had to find a way to move on from it.

The only problem being, that she couldn't.

Her feelings had grown so strong over the course of the last few months since coming back, and she didn't know if she'd ever be able to overlook them. He had made her feel things in the last few months than she never thought she would be able to feel, and she wasn't ready to give that up just yet.

But they were friends. Best friends, and that's all they could ever be. It would only ruin what they had if they went any further than that. She's rather have him in her life and not be with him like that, then to lose his friendship forever if things didn't work out. Or worse, if things did work out between them and she found a way to ruin it.

No. She couldn't do it. It was too risky, and besides, Violet seemed to be completely enamoured by the ginger, and she wasn't about to fuck that up. She wasn't like that.

So, despite the heaviness in her heart and the feelings growing stronger within her, she budged. If she was going to have to pretend she wasn't in love with Violets (now) boyfriend, she could at least get on her good sides in the process.

Edith took a breath. "Sure. What'd you have in mind?".

Edith's pov

Violet and I spent the rest of the day catching up, laughing and reminiscing to a much simpler time. A time where our biggest worry was whether or not we'd pass their OWLs. We talked about every mischievous thing we'd get up to in Hogwarts, all the Quidditch games we'd watch, and how much fun we always seemed to have in between those moments.

I found myself smiling broadly and laughing along with Violet, and it was only a matter of time before I felt like we could be the best of friends again. It was as if nothing had ever come between us, and nothing ever would again.

Together, are in arm, we went from shop to shop along the streets of Diagon Alley, looking at all kinds of clutter, and before I knew it, the day was drawing to a close.
