Seven years later

🥀

IF YOU'D TOLD Edith a decade or so ago that she'd be happily married to Fred Weasley by now, she would've laughed in your face and questioned your sanity. If you'd told her she would be raising a strong-minded and beautiful daughter and with another child on the way, she'd not doubt you any less.  Happiness had not been something she felt herself to be deserving of, and for years she struggled with the belief of not being good or worthy enough, so when she caught the smirking face of her husband from across the kitchen in the mornings, she couldn't help but feel as if she had finally reached a point of acceptance. She had her family, and it didn't matter where she came from or that the past still came to haunt her in her sleep now and again, because she was finally at peace in her life. She was finally ready to live the rest of it the way she had chosen for herself.

Eira Marlena Weasley-Gannon was born on November 16th 2008. Named after a dear friend of her mothers who sadly passed at a young age, the girl was an absolute blessing. Everyone seemed to instantly fall in love with the young girl upon seeing her crack a toothy smile at anyone who showed her the slightest bit of affection, or due to the way she resembled both her parents so vividly. She had been gifted with her mothers dark hair and her fathers freckles, and she was just as mischievous as her dad, just as stubborn as her mum. She was a blessing, a beacon in the night, and the Weasley-Gannon family couldn't be more pleased with how she turned out.

Edith had finally found the courage to tell Fred about the baby she lost after they broke things off the last time, and even though it hurt like hell for the both of them, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief in finally letting him know. They had cried, while holding each other close, before finally drifting off to sleep in each other's arms. They would rarely speak of the things they'd lost, seeing as they found little comfort in continuing doing so, but baby Weasley would remain a huge part of their lives, as well as their hearts.

"We have up hurry, love, or we'll be late. Your mum told us to come by at five and it's currently... five to. Now — where is my damn wand?" Edith let one hand rest on her growing belly while frantically searching the house for her wand. Fred was in the living room, bouncing Eira on his leg while following his wife with his gaze, a smile tugging at his lips.

He let out a chuckle. "Oh you mean this?" he pointed towards the 13 inch wand lying on the table close to him. He placed a kiss to his daughters forehead, causing a light and airy chuckle to escape her and he felt his heart constrict, his insides warm at the sound, feeling more happy and content than he ever thought possible. Had it been just a few years ago, he wouldn't have believed this could ever be a reality; being married to the love of his life, spending nearly every waking moment with her and his now three year old daughter. It still felt as surreal as it had the day she had been born, or even the day Edith had told him she was pregnant. He could still remember the giant smile upon his wife's lips, the way her eyes filled with unshed tears, her hand resting on her belly which had yet to show any signs of her condition. He had been so happy at learning the news that he couldn't keep from letting out a quiet sob, pulling Edith into a warm embrace, placing gentle kisses everywhere he could; her curls, her forehead, her cheeks, and finally her mouth.

Fred still found himself grinning like a lunatic at the memory every now and then. He couldn't believe how he got to be so lucky.

"What?", Edith asked her husband of 5 years. He was grinning like a madman and she couldn't help but copy his smile. "What are you smiling about?"

"You. This. Our life." He answered with a chuckle. "I just don't know what I could've ever done to deserve all of this. I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, and it's all thanks to you, my love. So thank you, for giving me this life we have together, for our beautiful daughter. I love you with all I have." He raised from the sofa, with Eira still close to his chest. She was well on the way to falling sound asleep, snuggled close to her dad. Fred placed a chaste kiss to Edith's nose, to which she answered by pulling his lips towards hers in a more heated kiss.

"I love you," she returned the sentiment, gazing into his dark eyes which held nothing but love and pride in them, "but we really really have got to hurry or your mum'll have both our heads", she laughed earning a chuckle from Fred as well.

Dinner at the Burrow stayed a recurring event, bringing together every member of the Weasley family, including wives, husbands and children. Every other Sunday, the whole of the Weasley clan would get together, share in stories and enjoying a nice home cooked meal together. At times, even Cerise (who was still in a very serious relationship with Ginny), Violet and Ravi would come over for dinner, along with Charlie and his husband Florin. On the times were they did, they'd also bring along their adopted son Marcel whereas Ravi and Violet brought with them a more often than not  very grumpy baby daughter named Casey, who had quickly fallen into step with Eira, seeing as she was closest to her in age out of all the children.

Edith couldn't believe her luck. Everything had turned out wonderful, and if you'd go back and look at it from the eyes of someone in the beginning of the 2000s or even well before that, well, you wouldn't believe your eyes. Everything had fallen into place, and it seemed even Edith Gannon was deserving of happiness and love.

She had finally gotten the family she so desperately wanted, and she'd found it in the person she loved the most in this world.

She had found a family in Fred Weasley.
