chapter twenty-three
CERISE ALTON🥀
» » THINGS DIDN'T WORK out between Fred and Violet. In fact, Violet had called off their relationship upon realising he was still having feelings for Edith, and Fred couldn't argue with that. Al though he liked her very much, Violet just wasn't the person for him, and she was right to figure that out. She had witnessed first hand, the side glances the two of them would give each other, the laughs they'd share, and she was well aware of their tumultuous past. Besides, she had grown considerably closer to Edith, and she didn't want to lose that over some guy, despite her exceeding fondness for him.
After their talk during the thunderstorm, Fred and Edith had gone back to being just friends. All seemed to go well between the two of them, it was certainly less painful then having to pretend as if they didn't care about each other. Because they did. They always would.
Despite everything going good between the two best friends, Edith didn't return to her post at Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. They'd come to a mutual agreement that it would just make things more awkward—and besides—neither one of them wanted to go back to the way things were. Instead, they settled on staying friends, and things were certainly looking up for the brunette and the ginger. Edith seemed to grow more hopeful about the future with each passing day, and Fred was equally optimistic. Instead, Edith had gotten herself an exciting new position at Hogwarts.
"Care of Magical Creatures-professor?", Fred said shockingly, his mouth hanging agape.
Edith had been on a fair share of job interviews in the last couple of months, but none that she felt truly good about. None that peaked her interest.
That was until she was informed of the open position by none other than Minerva McGonagall, headmistress at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. McGonagall had been their head of house during their time at school, and Edith's favourite professor. So when she was met with the familiar stamp on one of her letters one day, she was surprised, to say the least.
The letter read:
Dear Ms. Gannon,
I am pleased to inform you that your application for the position of Care of Magical Creatures professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has been accepted.
We are excited to welcome you to the team, and hope that you'll find this new opportunity rewarding.
Term begins on 1 September. Members off staff are expected to arrive no later than August 25th. Please rapport to the Chamber of Reception upon your arrival.
I look forward to seeing you and showing you around the premises myself. I particularly remember you as a rather driven and passionate young student, and hope you will come to feel at home here.
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall,
Headmistress
"You got the job?!", Fred's shocked expression turned ecstatic as he raised his eyebrows, grinning mischievously.
Edith smiled back. Verifying with a discrete nod. "I got the job".
Fred was elated. He was so proud of what Edith had accomplished, so astounded by her self growth. She had grown to be this amazing, hard-working and driven person, and he couldn't be more happy for her success.
