////still a little boring-ish exposition but I swear it gets better next chapter!!!////

Wednesday 2/5

"Wes? Are you, uh, okay?" She looked at me, concerned before placing her hand of my shoulder.

"Oh, um, hey Har. Sorry, still waiting for my letter from this really good school and I'm nervous because I need this scholarship and- And now I'm just ranting." I laughed forcefully.

"Oh my god, don't be silly. You're definitely getting in, and if you don't, they're too stupid!"

She stuck out her physics notebook and sat closer next to me.

"I need help with these ones today. God, I don't understand why math is put into this stuff."

I'm Harleigh's tutor.

It was strange tutoring her though, considering how great her grades were.

I was surprised someone would ever want extra help in a class they're already passing, but she did.

Actually, she was doing better than passing... she was acing physics.

Anyway, I'm not here to question her academic choices, but just to help her out a little more.

I guess you could say we're friends, but that's really it.

And I like being her friend, a lot actually.

We've had eleven classes together since middle school, yet she only started to know my name two months ago when Mr. Darcy assigned me as her tutor.

I also see her at church every Sunday at five o'clock mass when I'm forced out of the house with my mom and Lennox. She usually goes with her grandparents, her younger brother, Nate, and her sister.

Never once has she worn black or even brown, only light colors, and she even stays late after mass for story time in the Catholic school next door.

If she ever asked though, I'd probably just say I didn't know her before this whole tutoring thing either.

Because it was sort of true.

Sure I knew Harleigh, but when do you ever truly know someone?

"Wes?"

"Yeah?"

Okay, I really have to stop doing that.

"You're really good at this!"

"Thanks." I smiled. "It's pretty easy once you get around the whole making it equal part."

She kept writing down the wrong things but she seemed pretty proud of it, so I decided probably just help her out more tomorrow and save her the trouble of redoing all of them right now.

"Hey, you know, I was thinking, like, do you like parties?"

I didn't even realize it, but I had started laughing and the entire library seemed to gradually stare at me and Harleigh closer.

"Oh, um, I guess."

Lies. I pretty much dread social gatherings weeks before they even arrive.

"Great! Because there's this party on Friday, and me and Ryder aren't together anymore, but that doesn't matter, but I don't know, would you maybe want to go with-"

"That'd be great." I noticed her blushing.

"Really?"

"It's a date!"
