Chapter 17

After running frantically through the busy streets of Chicago, I finally arrived at my hotel , just in time for the taxi. I climbed in and quickly buckled my seatbelt. We were quite late, but hey, they always save the best till last.

I looked out the window, Chicago was a really pretty city. We drove past the Willis Tower and over a canal. I could really get used to this American life, everyone seemed so relaxed and chilled. That is, except for the early 4th July partygoers, who looked a little shaky.

The taxi  pulled up after about 20 minutes of rushed driving. I threw open the door, grabbed my shoulder bag and jumped onto the pavement. Because it was a tour taxi,  I didn't have to pay anything. I raced through the stage doors and nodded to the backstage guard. I showed him my V.I.P pass and he let me through.

"First door on the left." He muttered with a monotone voice.

I walked through the corridor and ran up the stairs, bursting though the room door bright red in the face.

"Ellie?"

I span round on hearing my name.

It was Emmy, my costume manager. She was about 24 and she was practically ace at everything to do with appearance. She was one of those people that always looked like she had just walked fresh out of a photoshoot.

"Oh dear, did you not get the message? Meeting was canceled. People wanted to get ready for the bonfire tonight."

Oh.

"Speaking of ready, it looks like you're not."

Well thanks.

"I went shopping earlier and I brought a few things that I could wear tonight."

"Or how about you just leave everything to me?"

"Seems like a better plan." I agreed.

Emmy walked on over to the costume room. There was everything in there, from suits to chicken onesies, they had it all.

"Go take a shower while I pick out your clothes!" She called from inside the costume room. I wondered off to the shower cubicles.

I came out, a towel wrapped around me.

"Here," Emmy handed me some clothes.

"Try these for size."

She sent me into one of the changing rooms. I set the clothes down, she did a good job!  Emmy had picked out a white tank top with a faded  American flag on; distressed, light denim shorts; a navy blue and white striped bralette and a pair of red vans. (See picture) I slipped on my undergarments and the bralette. Wiggled into my shorts and put on the tank top, tucking it in slightly. I wrapped my damp hair up in the towel and slid on the red vans.

"Guurrl, you be looking fiinnee," Emmy greeted me as I walked on in.

"Why thank you Em, " I giggled.

"Stage 2: hair and make-up. Sit down in that chair will you, I've already got everything ready."

I did what I was told. I sat down in the spin chair next to the row of mirrors that lined the makeup counter.

It wasn't long before Emmy had finished attacking my face with brushes and powders, and my hair with heated wands.  She took a step back and nodded in satisfaction.

"Yep,  all done. You can look in the mirror now."

I stood on up and walked on over to the full length mirror that was on the left side wall.

Holy.  Wow.

My jaw dropped and Emmy started to laugh.

"Like it?"

"Emmy, this is -wow- Thank you!"

She had curled my chestnut hair into voluminous and messy curls. She'd Contoured and concealed my face. For my eyes, she did  a natural brown smokey eye, with winged eyeliner and mascara. Not forgetting, of course, a deep red 4th July lipstick and lipgloss - because your lipgloss must always be popping.

It was now around 4:40 and the party starts at 5, so I called a tour taxi. They are normally so fast so  I hurriedly thanked Emmy and ran out to the front of the hall, analyzing  the street in front of me for a taxi. After realizing that it wasn't here yet, I decided to go on twitter.

@nashgrier: excited to see this little one for 4th July partying @elviraheyes

I guess that means I will meet him later, I'll ask where to meet him when I get in the taxi.

@elviraheyes: you'll have to teach me how to nae-nae @nashgrier @camerondallas

A loud honk made me jump literally 10000000 meters into the air. I guess my ride is here.
