Skydiving.

Skydiving.

Skydiving.

I repeated the word over and over in my head, trying to work it out.

So much for my cute little picnic idea.

I wiggled my toes agitatedly around in my shoes, thinking of all the ways this situation could wrong.

The plane could break.
We could crash.
The parachute could be packed wrong.

I pressed my foot firmly into the ground, unintentionally pinning a flower stem. I hoped that this would relieve my inner stress. But no, my brain would not stop trying to scare me.

Millions of people did skydiving every year, and hardly anyone ever gets hurt. I mean, they wouldn't run it if it wasn't safe. Right? And, you're strapped to someone that is trained and a professional. So they would (hopefully) be able to handle any situation that could go wrong.

Plus, it's something to tick off my non-excistant  bucket list.

It would be something to tell the family back home : 'Hey guess what I just did today with a boy I hardly know.... I went skydiving.' They would pull me off this tour thinking I was crazy.

I tapped my chin, deep in thought.

"Wait- if you're afraid of heights - I'm sorry- I should have checked with you first- this whole idea is crazy- sorry this is stupid - why did I - I shouldn't have put you on the spot like this-" Shawn panicked, running his hand through his hair nervously.

His reaction reminded me of a year ago, when we were stood in my old school music room, him panicking over whether I had a boyfriend. Even though he had changed, he still had little quirks- like when he bit his lip when he was nervous. I can remember when in gym class, when he had a chance to score at the basketball hoop, he would always bite his lip, clearly trying to focus as to not miss a shot in front of his exchange classmates.

Just the memory made my cheeks suddenly feel warm.

I tried my best to put on a smile and play calm.

"No, it's fine. Really. I will be absolutely fine skydiving." I said, reassuring myself rather than answering his panic frenzy. I clenched my toes again in attempt to calm myself even more.

"So tell me, why are we here?" I asked, hoping to distract my brain from picturing
more death scenarios.

"Well, it's quite a funny story actually."

He seemed to have calmed down, which was good, but I could still detect a little unease in his voice.

"So, I once took this girl out on a date before-"

"- This is a date?" I asked.

He just smirked in response.

"And anyway, we were at this restaurant, enjoying out meals and these guys came up to me and told me I was doing it all wrong. I guess they meant I was being to boring; we were just at a restaurant. So I decided to be more spontaneous, hence why we are going skydiving."

SKYDIVING!

Yep skydiving - calm your shizzle Elvira. He's being really nice and your making him nervous. He had the best intentions!

1.2.3 calm.

I laughed nervously and Shawn put his arm lightly around my shoulders. He patted my back reassuringly and started to lead me over to the concrete/wooden hut. I guess he had taken the hint that he better make the girl in front of him skydive before she had a complete freak out.
