I stood outside my house and adjusted my backpack. I gazed around -

"Ellie!"

Ahhh. There she is.

"Hey Alice!"

Alice and I have been best friends since we were 7. She lives in a street around the corner. Our houses are adjacent and when we were younger, we used to try to create little secret entrances between our gardens. Long story short, it almost always ended with a fence nearly broken or unusable.

She Looked at me and frowned, "Gym bag?" Alice asked.I looked down and saw it wasn't there. "Shoot!" I said as I ran to my door. Grabbing the spare key from under the mat and shoving it into the lock. I opened the door and grabbed my bag.

I turned around to find that Alice was no longer there. That's when I heard the slush of water. Round the corner of my house came Alice holding a waterbottle like a gun.

"You wouldn't dare," I challenged, brandishing my own water bottle from the side of my bag.

"Bring it bitch," she sassed. She unscrewed the lid and flicked her wrist, sending a stream of water straight at me. Of course, it hand to land right on my skirt. You know, just right where it would look like I had wet myself.

I narrowed my eyes and gave her my best menacing glare. I twisted off my water bottle lid and moved it upwards. A shower of water hit her right in the face.

"ELLIIEE!" She squealed, dropping her bottle in surrender.  and we burst into laughter.

She gave me a playful shove and said "Watch it!"I handed her an earphone as a truce  and we started giggling and singing down the road. We got quite a few strange looks from joggers and dog-walkers,  probably because one of us  looked like she  had just face-planted a puddle, and the other like a 3 year old, who had wet herself. How we would dry before we got to school I don't know- we just had to hope and pray that it would be sunny for once.

We weren't even halfway down our road before the topic changed: from unfinished homework to Alice's favourite gossip subject.

Boys.

Alice was a bit of a hopeless romantic - every morning before school, she would talk about the boy who "winked" at her or who smiled at her like they were her destined love. It was kinda funny sometimes.

"Ellie, do you remember that new blonde boy at the lockers yesterday. Well damn, he was pretty cute- compared to the other boys in our school. I mean, for one, his hair didn't look too greasy or- do you think he'll ever like me?"

Here we go ....

I let Alice ponder over her crazy ramblings as we carried on walking.

"Well, " she started, "I don't think so. But that's not the main reason I'm feeling pretty excited."

I glared at her, expecting her to come up with some news about a boy band or something.

"Oh my god- have you not heard?- Those day exchange students are coming today! I hope they are nice - and the boys be nice looking. Justin Bieber came from Canada so I am expecting great things. Hey, Ellie you should use it to your advantage-"

Here we go again..

"You should walk up to them and be like "Hey, I'm Elvira, wanna follow me into the supply closet?" She said in a weird accent that made us both laugh.

"Shuddup Alice you know I'm not like that." I laughed, "That sounds more like you!" I said playfully.

As we approached the school building, the bell rang, signalling for us to go to class. The majority of my skirt had dried, and I had gym next lesson so, it wouldn't matter to much.

"Here I go, Ellie, wish me luck!"

"Farewell Alice." I giggled  with a mock  salute
