Chapter 25

7th July

I looked at the corner of the screen.

57:34

Have I really been on skype for that long?

Whoa.

I re-adjusted the braid on my shoulder and looked at the camera. "Hey Alice, we've nearly been on an hour!"

"Oh yeah, that went really quickly. But stop trying to avoid my question- what happened after you met Nash and Cameron at that party-thingy-ma-bob."

I have to distract her.

This was the bit I was dreading. Yes, I had already told Alice about meeting Nash, Cam and all the other Magcon boys. I mean, she already kind of knew from my twitter feed, it was full with mentions and tweets about them and the tour. I had told her about how, when I first met them, I had absolutely no clue who they were. Alice on the other hand, knew exactly who I meant when I mentioned the word Magcon. In fact, at the mention of Nash and Cameron -no surnames or details- she immediately squealed. I couldn't help but wonder if she fangirled at every mention of a name that just happened to belong to a Magcon boy.

It was Alice. So. Probably.

After a few minutes of her explaining to me how she had only found out about them in the last half year; and about how much she loved the original Magcon, even though they had broken up, she finally seemed to calm down.

"Oh my gosh, Ellie. Can you please make them follow me on twitter or something!" She waved her hands frantically about in excitement. "Even better! Can you, like, set me up with Nash or something?" She stopped and gasped. "No. Set me up with Hayes- I will actually love you for ever! Please!"

She held up her hand to the camera and ran to get her tablet. Alice scrolled through her home screen and clicked on the vine icon. She went through her feed until she found what she was looking for, you could tell that by her face.

"Isn't he just flawless." She stated, turning the tablet round. On the screen seemed to be a video edit of Hayes Grier. It played over and over again whilst she just gawped at it. Whilst she watched more edits - to cure her 'Hayes feels'- it gave me time to think on how I would answer her question.

No clue.

"After the party and your awkward falling off incident ?" She questioned, still not looking up from her tablet.

Yep, because of twitter I didn't even need to tell her about my fall- the GIF's were everywhere. And now I needed to tell her the reason I fell off Cameron. The reason my life had just become a million times more complicated and awkward.

This was my que.

And here goes Nothing.

"Okay Al. You better put your tablet away because the following tale is going to mess up your mind. The next stage of tour adventures contains snails, posh restaurants and reunions."

"Reunions?"

I was nervous. Alice hadn't said a word for my whole story- from him helping me pick up my bag crap, to the dinner.

"So let me get this straight. When the exchange was here, you, Elvira Heyes, made out with a random boy? And you've been hiding this from me for nearly a year?" Alice asked outraged. "And then he magically turns up on your tour, because of a drop out and orders you snails."

When you put it like that it sounds more like a cliche story than anything.

I nodded my head in shame and played with my fingers. "Umm. Yea."

Suddenly, she cracked into a smile. "Wow. Elvira, I'm proud of you." She giggled. "But don't ever keep thing like that from me again!"

I just looked, stunned, at the computer screen. I hadn't expected that reaction, but I guess I was talking to Alice. I guess she always wanted me to 'live a little', do something rebellious.

"And he just happens to be on your tour?" She queried.

I nodded my head, "I know right, what are the chances?"

"Like, 1 in a couple billion!" Alice giggled, shaking her head. "Isn't it fate that you two re-met, maybe it's a sign. It's not every day you meet back up like that. I mean, one, you're on tour and two, you normally live, like, 3000 miles away from each other!"

"I guess. But, I don't think that a year ago meant anything. I mean, we both knew that we would probably never see each other again- or so we thought. I don't know what I was thinking."

"But the story isn't finished yet."

"Finished?" She asked, intrigued.

"Yea. At the dinner, he asked me out to the park."

"The park? On your first date you went to a park? Did you have him push you on the swings or something ?" She teased sarcastically.

"One, it was not a date. And two, it was actually really fun."

"I bet," she sneered."Then did you chase eachother around the park like 6 year olds?"

I kept my mouth shut for that bit.

"Then I bet you went on the slide or something."

I was getting fed up of her teasing. Alice sometimes turned into an older sister who liked to take the mick of my attempts to grow up.

"No-" I insisted.

"It was full so you went on the see-saw instead-"

"We almost kissed-" I blurted out.

Shit. I was meant to tell her in a better way.

"- You what? Now I am intrested!"

"Yeah," I giggled nervously, "We were like this close," I held my fingers up in emphasis and Alice's eyes lit up. "But I just couldn't do it." Her eyebrows pulled together. "Basically I pulled away..." I trailed off, as Alice's shoulders dropped.

"Then I chickened out, ran to this random bandstand and we just talked awkwardly for another hour before we walked back to the hotel. Nothing else."

"So tell me the name of this guy so I can stalk him on twitter and everything." She turned her tablet back on. "I wanna find out who this boy that is driving my best friend crazy."

"Shawn."

"Shawn who?"

"Mendes. As in m-e-n-d-"

"Yeah, I know how to spell it." Alice interrupted. "He's famous. Not only that," Alice started to breathe quickly. "You'll never believe it, but he's a magc- "

"-musician. Yeah, I know. That's why he's on tour. Duh Alice."

"I still cant believe you pulled away- I mean look at him. He's gorgeous!"

"Again, I just want a relationship that won't mess up this career opportunity- it was just in the moment. Really, it meant nothing."

But nothing is such a strong word.
