'La Jardin Rouge' read the resturant sign.
Wow, this place is f-a-n-c-y.
Grand pillars reached from the swept pavement to a second floor balcony, where a few men in suits stood smoking. Golden chandeliers lit with many cream-coloured-candles illuminated the front windows. Posh looking couples and families were sat at clothed wooden tables, the men and women all sipping glasses of wine. All being served by elegantly dressed waitresses and waiters.
And I was stood in front of this posh masterpiece wearing yellow Nike trainers.
Smooth.
I took a deep breath and walked towards the gold-framed double doors, where 2 young men in uniforms slouched waiting.
They noticed me coming and stood up, as if trying to look incredibly posh and authoritative. They gave me an acknowledging nod as I walked past, before widening their eyes at my exotic shoe choice.
"Your name ma'am?"
Being a 16-nearly-17 year old schoolgirl, I was not used to being called 'ma'am'. As a result, I completely blanked out the guy asking me.
"Ma'am?"
I span round.
"Your name Ma'am?"
"Ermm.... Heyes, Elvira Heyes."
I should become the next James bond.
"Aahh, table number 12. Allow me to escort you there."
I gave him a weak smile and followed him towards a separate room. I could hear the loud buzz of conversation, with the odd laugh becoming more audible. He gently pushed on the twin doors and they swung open without a sound. He gestured me to go forward and into a well lit space with cream coloured walls. A long wooden table ran the whole length of the room. Decorative flowers and candles lined the table at which many ebony chairs surrounded.
No one was sat at the table, but everyone stood around it. The large room looked pretty crowded as adults walked around, holding glasses of wine and joining on others conversations. Everyone was wearing immaculate suits and dresses and, unlike me, nobody was wearing trainers.
The escort left me and I looked frantically around for a friendly face. I could see Emmy in the far corner, looking perfect as always. I think we all have that friend who just always looks incredible, no matter how little effort they put in . She was wearing a peach-coloured dress with sandal heels and had her hair beautifully curled.
I started to slowly make my way over to her. As I went I was dragged into other conversations with people that knew me, but I had no clue who the hell they were. This went on for about half an hour, and all I wanted to do was talk to Emmy, or text Nash.
"Ah, Elvira, so glad you could make it." A blonde haired man smiled at me and stuck out his hand for me to shake. I gingerly put my hand to his as he enclosed my hand with both of his and shook it.
I'm just gonna smile because I don't know who you are okay?
As I just stood there awkwardly smiling, he turned back round and started to chat to some other men. I left as soon as he turned and started to pace over to Emmy.
"Ahh, Ellie!"
Smile and turn around.
"Your hair looks nice dear,"
If one of my friends had of said that, I would have done a hair flip, or say some sassy remark. But because this was a middle aged lady who did not look like she would act well to teenage sass , I thanked her.
