"Call her a mudblood again and I'll shove my wand so far up your arse that you could taste the wood!" yelled Y/N to the Slytherins, pointing her wand threateningly at them.
Her stony face immediately softened at the feeling of familiar hands gently cupping her face, tugging her face down until she was met with a pair of honey-brown eyes.
"You're a complete idiot." said Hermione with a small shake of her head disapprovingly, her thumb gently stroking Y/N's cheek in attempt to calm her down.
"Don't act like you don't love this complete idiot." countered Y/N with raised eyebrows, gripping the bushy haired girls waist as she sat down, pulling Hermione with her.
Hermione and (Y/N) were polar opposites. The Gryffindor girl was similar to a black cat, people found luck in her, and she was quite the strong one. Whereas the Slytherin girl was like a dove that couldn't stray away from the black cat, a dove so delicate and agile.
"I never said I didn't." replied Hermione with a huff, settling herself on top of the platinum-haired girls lap, her free hand playing with her hair. "Change of subject, I'm supposed to be scolding you for drinking Firewhisky last night."
"There was no harm in it!" protested Y/N indignantly.
"You were drunk!"
"Was not! I was just a bit tipsy!"
"You literally coloured my damn face with highlighter because you said I was important!" scoffed Hermione like a mother reprimanding her abashed child.
The two girls glared at eachother, though Y/N's lip slowly curled into a grin, followed by Hermione who was biting down her bottom lip in attempt to fight the urge to grin as well.
"Stop it. I'm supposed to be mad at you." huffed Hermione, burying her face in the crook of the platinum-haired girls neck. "I don't get why people think that we're dating. We act like normal friends, right?" she asked suddenly.
"Exactly." agreed Y/N.
Friends. Yeah. Totally. Friends that casually cuddle everywhere they go. But all of that is about to change.

Y/N stared at the mess her room became, her grades were dropped, her assignments were all marked missing. Her fear of failure and disappointing her parents became true, feeling an immense amount of shame pooling in her stomach.
"All your teachers wrote to me and said that you've been skipping classes the entire semester!" scolded Lucius, staring down at the abashed girl. "Is this what that mudblood did to you?" he said suddenly.
"What?" said a confused Y/N, her face contorting in genuine confusion. "What does Hermione got to do with anything-"
"She's a distraction." spat Lucius plainly. "I forbid you to go near her ever again."
"But- my best friend!-"
"I have tolerated you for way too long, I already tolerated your friendship with a mudblood, but considering she's the cause of your failure-"
"She didn't do anything!" protested Y/N.
"Enough!" yelled Lucius in a very straightforward manner. "Enough! You are never going near a mudblood ever again!"

Hermione didn't hesitate to run over to the Slytherin table, ignoring the eyes that were boring onto her.
"Y/N!" said Hermione, approaching the platinum-haired girl with a wide grin etched upon her freckled face. "How was Christmas at your family?- oh I have so much to tell you!-"
"Get away from me, you filthy little mudblood." spat Y/N harshly, backing away from the bushy haired girl.
"W-What?" said a completely bewildered Hermione, trying to keep her voice steady, although she proved to be unsuccessful. "Y/N-"
"Don't come near me ever again. I despise you." scoffed Y/N in a monotone voice, not meeting the pair of glossed over honey-brown eyes, knowing that they would practically see right through her lie.
"Y/N, come on I've known you for three years, I know when you're hiding something-"
"Just get away from me!" yelled Y/N, all heads turning in their direction as her voice boomed across the Hall. "I wish I never met you! I wish we were never friends!" she spat.
Silence. Silence is the only thing she was given in response, so she slowly turned her head to face the bushy haired girl, and she never felt her heart constricting this badly at the sight of a teary-eyed Hermione, and she hated herself for being the reason for those tears.
"Honestly, I never meant to become attached." admitted Hermione, letting out a shaky breath as another tear trickled down on her freckled face.
"I never meant to become friends with a Malfoy. But..But your laugh and charismatic personality, or the way you looked at me. How could I not become attached?" she trailed on, wiping the tears off her face. "I never meant for it to turn out like this. And yet I know damn well that we aren't supposed to end like this."
"Well guess what? Face reality, I knew that it was supposed to end like this, ever since from the beginning." lied Y/N through gritted teeth.
"So what?" said Hermione, crossing her arms over her chest. "Are we just gonna pretend that it all never happened? Are we going to become strangers again, strangers who look at eachother as though they're the only people in the world, strangers who obliviously flirt like there's no tomorrow?"
"Exactly. Just pretend that I'm a stranger, should be easy for The Brightest Witch of Her Age." said Y/N with a small shrug.
"Oh of course, why didn't I think of that!" said Hermione sarcastically, letting out an exasperated laugh. "A 'stranger' that I'd think about all the time? A 'stranger' that I go to immediately once I wake up?How do you expect me to forget it all, how can I forget you, how do I pretend it all never happened?"
And for the first time, Hermione Jean Granger didn't know what to do.
