There were so many times in her life that she had been nervous. Countless times in which she had to make decisions that affected the very lives of the werewolves under her care. So many times, in which she had to determine when to run and when to strike their enemy down. During those times, she had to swallow her nerves and make a decision as fast as the speed of light.
It still amazed her that out of all the things that she had experienced, she still would get nervous about something like this. It was new, but it wasn't like she was going to be put in a near-death experience. It was just a dance.
One that she had been convinced to dress up to attend. It wasn't even official, just a lesson. That was her way of trying with Eric. She had always wanted to learn how to dance. Dancing in the trees of her old home was one of her fondest memories of when she was younger. It would be nice to dance at a party and be apart of the many that were being twirled around on the dance floor.
But she was still so incredibly nervous.
"Don't get cold feet now, Jane," Ana put a hand on her arm. "It's going to be just fine, I promise."
"What if I make a fool of myself?" she couldn't help but be honest to the omega. Ana had been kind enough to let her use her make-up and help her with her hair. It was the only time she had ever truly felt like a woman.
"It's your first dancing lesson," Ana said. "No one's expecting you to be the best dancer in the world. Eric isn't even that good."
"He isn't?" she asked. She would have thought that he was a decent dancer, at least. He was one of the kids that always danced with her in the trees.
"No," she laughed a little. "Trust me, Jane, you've got nothing to worry about."
She nodded and looked at the doors that she needed to go through. They were to one of the large rooms that the pack house had. She had no idea what Eric was even going to think of her now that she had decided to dress up for it. It was kind of on the spot that it even happened. She didn't think about how weird it might have been until then.
After taking a deep breath, she opened the doors. Inside were the two men that she was expecting. Nick was the chef that they had met early on in their introduction to the pack. He was a talented man who loved doing many artistic things. He was also the mate to Alistair, who she respected more than the other warriors. He was the only one who had wanted to believe her when she had first seen the hunters.
The second man was the one that had her yearning to walk into that room and into those arms, and run from the house all at once. Those different colored eyes pulled her to him. It was at war with the fear that she had for mates in general.
"What song are we dancing to now?" the boy asked as they twirled.
"Whatever song your heart sings!" she giggled. She always loved twirling in the rays of sunlight. And it was more fun when there were more people. "Just move your feet!"
"Wow!" he looked at her in awe. He was always so surprised by everything she did. "You're really good, Jane. I think you're going to be the best dancer in the world someday!"
She hadn't thought of that memory in a long time. Eric and her had a lot of fun when they were younger. They had done just about everything together. She couldn't remember a time where she didn't enjoy being around him.
But that was when they were younger. That was before either of them had to deal with any of this. Those eyes were gentle, and she knew that he wouldn't hurt her, but she still feared her fate of being his mate. There were just too many horrible memories that came with that.
