He hated that he had taken on the night patrols all the time. It was great for if he wanted to sleep the morning away and be able to sneak out of his parent's suite when they were busy doing something else. But it messed his whole schedule up when he wasn't doing it anymore.

Max had taken him completely off the patrol. It wasn't because he had done anything wrong, or he was incapable of doing it. He just wanted him to focus solely on Sage and making sure he was safe.

"So," he said, adjusting in his seat. He had called him to the Alpha's office to give him those specific orders. "When exactly were you planning on telling me?"

"Telling you what?" he asked. This was on the spot, and he had just woken up after a shift. His mind wasn't exactly the sharpest at the moment.

"That you found your mate?" Max raised an eyebrow. "Or were you just planning on waiting until I saw you flirting with him or something?"

"I wasn't flirting with him," he shrank a little in his seat. This was the worst conversation for right when he woke up. He knew that this was going to come eventually, he just didn't expect it so soon.

"Maybe that's just what you think," the red head smirked at him. "If you were the one on the outside you would be saying the same thing. Now, why did you wait to tell me?"

"I wasn't sure what to do first, honestly," Reggie finally admitted. "He isn't exactly in the best shape to deal with all the mate stuff. And I didn't want word to spread to everyone."

Look at how he took them all being werewolves. He ran from them the moment he first woke up. Even though he had learned to like it here, there was still a chance that he would freak out and try to leave again. He wanted to try and take things slow so that he could give him time to get used to everything.

"You realize that I keep most conversations confidential, right?" Max looked at him with calm eyes. "The reason why I always say you could come to me for anything is because of that specifically. The least I could have done was tell your parents that I'm not going to allow you to go to anymore of those parties."

"Are you?"

"No, Reg," Max shook his head. "There's no point. Besides, we're still dealing with a potentially dangerous enemy in the forest, and I'd rather not be short a warrior just because of a silly party that you didn't even want to go to in the first place."

Reggie sighed. That was the one thing he had been so annoyed about all week. That's been the only conversation they've had with him, even at the dinner table. It was the final push he needed to talk to Charlie about moving to his own room, though. That had taken a couple of days, but it was definitely worth it.

"What do you think about him?" he asked. He really wanted to know Max's opinion. If Sage was his mate, that meant that he would be the second human that their pack would welcome in. He worried about the controversy of that. His father, in particular, was going to hate the idea. He was going to hate all of this when it finally came out in the open.

"He's nice," Max smiled. "I think he compliments you pretty well. I honestly haven't seen you so happy and talkative than when you're around him."

"And the rest of the pack?"

"They love him already," the Alpha assured him. "It reminds me of when Charlie first came to the pack, honestly. They all fell in love with him as soon as they met him. Thankfully you won't have to deal with too many political issues because of it, though. If you're worried about the pack not wanting you to lead them because of it, I wouldn't."

He nodded with that. It wasn't until then that Max decided to give him the orders to stay by his mate's side as much as possible. The red head was dying to learn as much as he could about Sage and the stories that he told. Looking into them could be the key to all the strange things that was going on in the forest. The more they knew the better.
