That bakery was nice while it lasted. He was going to miss popping up there and trying that food. It was a good place to work too, rather than his vehicle. His work van was roomy, and had plenty of gadgets and gismos at his use, but it got so stuffy when he worked in it all the time.

But he would have to deal with it for now. The van was the only place he knew for sure that those wolves didn't know about. He doubted that Charlie remembered it at all. A quick prick of his blood while he was trying to get him to come to showed him that they had given him benzodiazepines. It was one of the sex drugs that were easy to get. It explained why he had been so out of it. That, mixed with the allergic reaction to silver put him in much worse shape than the normal human would have been.

It gave him a clue as to who was behind all of this, though. Because if they were able to look into Charlie's profile, then it meant someone who was in the upper class of supernatural's. Only someone of a high rank or who was in a job like his could look through the databases and see the information on the profiles. Some profiles wouldn't even show you a picture of the being without the right access. And Charlie had some high access to look into considering he was a Luna.

It was a clue, but not a good one. It narrowed it down at least, but there were still plenty of people who were given that access. Angels, demons, friendly, or murderous, the Department of Supernatural Beings remained neutral for the sake of sharing information justly with everyone.

Which is exactly why he didn't give them shit for information. He had more than a few enemies that would just love to know where he lived along with any other information that the department was dying to get out of him. He kept all his information on papers or in his head. That was the safest, after all.

His phone went off for the first time since he came back to the city. Thankfully, Sage had listened to him after that phone call. He probably worried the poor boy so much, but there was no way that he could keep him safe if he traveled with him right then. It was better that the wolves were protecting him. He didn't know why they would just yet, but they couldn't be all that bad if they were.

His first hint should have been their Luna. Anyone who is willing to have a Star Child with them is most likely willing to protect more. Charlie didn't seem like he had many guardians when he was growing up, but that Moon Goddess of theirs favored him. He could tell just from how many good things happened to him at night. The fact that he was part werewolf, even if by just a little percent, must have helped with that. And pairing him with an Alpha was a great way of keeping him safe.

Even if it didn't help so much the other day.

"Hello?"

"Snake," a tired voice came over the other end of the line.

"Jim," he smiled. Jim was his work partner from the city he came from. They did a bunch of cases together. "Why are you calling all of a sudden? Sick of the new guy already?"

"I hate that you left me to teach him the ropes," the rough voice sighed. "But that's not why I called, actually."

"You mean, you called because you actually missed me?"

"Only in your dreams," he laughed. "I'm calling to ask you why I just woke up to another phone call from the Crescent Moon pack, asking about you?"

"Ah," he nodded to himself. They must have been trying to dig into his past a little. Going through the supernatural database wasn't the best idea. One of them must have looked up where he worked or something. "I was wondering when they would do something like that."

"Why are you all the way over there?" Jim asked. "Did you forget just how much werewolves hate you?"

"Well, you don't hate me."
