Have you ever wanted to make a chill entrance for once? If so, then say no more as today I officially return with the first official spotlight in my new life at college with the illustrious Bluechair by Shen!
Summary
Come hither, dear reader. Do you desire memes, do you desire fun, do you desire to see the deepest recesses of a man who's let fame consume his entire life? Either way, whatever your reason, please take a seat on the blue chair, have some tea, and relax. I'm sure all you desire will come in due time.
Characters
Shen: Our mc and prominent author all wrapped into one sexy package Shen is one of Webtoon's most layered protagonists. The man is a passionate artist, an more passionate weeb, and an even more passionate horror enthusiast. Between that and his succulent collection of salsa jars or never-ending summer calendars and how can you not fall in love with this stubborn, tired and eccentric man?
Dave: Shen's ever-faithful webtoon manager, he is often the main man of Shen's schemes but also his voice of reason (for whatever good it will do).
Life: Shen's greatest enemy and friend; he's a very abrasive and challenging adversary for Shen sometimes, but he always manages to bring Shen back from the brink when needed.
Smol Ghost: A happy ghost that usually tries to keep things mellow and peaceful if possible.
Overview
Usually, I try to save objects like this for the end, but I think Bluechair's popularity should be considered in the overview. Mainly because I frankly find it amazing that Bluechair has over 938 chapters over seven years now while still having some side content and still keeping the quality consistent is insane.
In a way, that makes reading Bluechair kind of like a read of webtoon history and evolution as we see Shen develop his pen as the series marches on. At first, Bluechair started with a pretty cartoon but a realistic art style and pretty basic backgrounds. Then, however, the series adopted a much more diverse color palette and far more cartoonish designs over time.
While from a pure binge-reading perspective, this could be considered pretty weird, the later art style, in my opinion, is not badd as I believe that it gives Shen a lot more to work with from a visual standpoint. Speaking of visuals, Shen mixes it up, from Dragonball Z style fights and literal breaking of the fourth wall on numerous occasions. The haunting transformations I never feel bored reading.
Comedy wise like many comedy-based webtoons, my commentary is a little limited based on jokes. Explaining the mark and why it's funny is pretty subjective and would ruin the fun. Most of the time, though, Shen shares a piece of his life day by day or engages in an anomalous activity that'll get him trouble.
Combine that with the variety of running side events like the Q and A, side stories, horror stories, and my personal favorite, the different teas, and I'm sure you'll find something. Lowkey, this series can be a massive blast to revisit on some occasions as we see multiple references to past gags and characters. Bluechair has something for pretty much everybody as long as you look for it.
Epilogue
All in all, Bluechair is the definition of a webtoon original, and I hope to see more content from Shen as time goes on. And considering the Shen Comix, Bluechair fan club, and side series Live with Yourself, this seems to be a shared sentiment. Nonetheless, I doubt this will be Shen's last time in the spotlight, and I hope I'm able to shine under that same spotlight here at college. But until then, let's see where the light takes us next.
