Meet Evangeline, a half-elf living in a wild and wacky fantasy world who has one goal in mind. To make One Million Gold live in the famed celestial city. She may be small, but her ambition is as big as they come, which unfortunately means that she'll scam her way into the hearts of pretty much anyone to succeed.
Characters
Evangeline: Our main protagonist, some would say that Evangeline is a dirty, scamming elf who would sell her mother. I prefer to call her a highly resourceful, intelligent businesswoman who doesn't let anyone stop her. Which might as well be the same thing in the world of capitalism, right?
Overview
It has been a long while since I've covered Merryweather here, about 37 spotlights and 14 months, to be exact. That lowkey makes this a refreshing read, even if it is probably one of the shortest spotlights I've done in a minute. The good news is we get many new faces with Rayno on art, Cazz on edits, and Eli on letters.
The crew works together to create a fun, cartoonish anime style with silly faces and awesome expressions. Combine that with the occasional saucy service for the fans, and there's not much to complain about. Evangeline may be a straight-up asshole but damn if she's not an entertaining one with her schemes. Her near bottomless resources and talented gumption makes her a rather adaptable and proactive character.
Evangeline's goal naturally lets her explore a rather basic but potentially interesting magic world that seems that little bit of exciting lore building. From xenophobic dwarves, sultry necromances, and daring knights, we got a while there are a lot of routes to go for the gold. However, with a dash of fun side characters who unfortunately have to contend with Evangeline's constant cavalcade of crazy bullshit, I see potential even with how little we have right now.
Once the building blocks get set, I hope we see more of these fun characters interact again with some real obstacles courting Evangeline soon. Unfortunately, given the somewhat irregular updates, I think we have to wait before that happens.
Epilogue
Given that Merryweather has over 33 series (Jesus Christ, dude, calm down) ranging from underrated gems, interesting dramas, and a buttload of comedy, I don't know what to expect from One Million Gold. I know that it will be a hella entertaining story, which is good enough for me. I hope I can also continue to entertain my audience as we see where the spotlight takes us next.
