Has anyone seen how to train your dragon? If you have, then you must love what's next because today, we are going to shine a light on the fantasy Webtoon Glacias by Yaruno and Nawa!

Summary

Glacias is a story about a medieval fantasy society where the relationship between humans and dragons is sour. But despite the thousands of years of stigma, a young man named Juka decides that he will create a place where the two races can live in harmony together. A utopia called Glacias!

Characters

Juka: an idealistic yet naive boy Juka is rarely the one to start a fight, but he is always the one to end it. Dragons raised Juka, and after realizing the stigma that dragons get, he decides that he will do his best to become the bridge between the two worlds.

Aleria: one of Juka's first allies, Aleria, is often the voice of reason to many of Juka's antics. And when I mean that, I mean the voice of reason, I suggest giving him a tongue lashing of the highest order.

Akkin: a strong-willed man that would do anything for his little brother Iru is a man that has a dark past as being the heir of a dragon hunting guild. With the help of Juka, he plans to have a brighter future.

Iru: Akkin's younger brother. While he is probably the kindest out of the quartet, he still wants to prove an asset to the group.

Overview/ good stuff

The art of Glacias is frankly beautiful. It feels similar to an actual storybook you would see in the bookstore, so it's a feast for the eyes. The series also has intricate worldbuilding, with many chapters dedicated to building the advantages of hunting dragons, the types of dragons, and even a dragon hierarchy.

As a fellow drako, I can say that there are a lot of badass and cute dragons in this webtoon with unique designs. All in all, I feel as though the divide between humans and dragons is believable as we see humans continuously abuse dragons for their gain.

Finally, while this is usually a rarity, Glacias does have a couple of really well-visualized fight scenes with more symbolism than spectacle. Juka, primarily defensive fighting style using water and ice respectively, is a perfect realization of his harmony with dragons. The characters are strong enough to follow, and the story is also very binge-able with its concise chapters, so it's easy to keep up.

Epilogue

Glacias is a very fun and powerful webtoon of acceptance, and kindness is something that I feel we all need to share in this very vocal world of ours. Glacias is getting a complete publication, so it seems light has shined on them. So now, as I soar above the clouds like the drako I am, I wonder where the spotlight takes me next.
