Have you ever wanted me to cover a Tapas webcomic? If so, then you're in luck because I will cover some comics and shine a light on Canva in this particular cluster of spotlights. And Askeryna's fantasy romcom: Level 1 Housewife, is first on the list.
Summary
There are beings in this world and the next that haven't heard of Angrboda: the fabled adventurer who brought death to countless monsters across the land. Unfortunately, there's one particular beast she couldn't quite manage to defeat: the love bug. Before "Angie" knew better, she caught feelings and married her darling "Hubby." Now officially retired, this former adventurer will have to grapple with the challenges of domesticity as she lives as a normal housewife.
Characters
Angrboda: Our main character, Angie, is a seasoned adventurer hardened by years of fantastical fights. As such, she usually commands a very "hammer meet nail" mindset under a confident tone. However, whenever the subject of her "Hubby" or wifely duties comes up, all that courage and competence goes out the window—leaving her to emphasize the hopeless in hopeless romantic.
Hubby: The spectacular spouse of Angrboda (at least in her eyes), Hubby is an average pretty boy. He's an incredibly affectionate and gentlemanly person to just about anyone, often serving as the peaceful contrast to his wife's antics, even if it involves having to deal with a shattered pelvis or rancid dinner.
Overview
Been a while since I've covered a romcom (Shikimori or Daybreak, I guess, would count), if I'm not mistaken, especially something this short. If you're looking for a brief and binge-able story to lighten your day in under a minute, this is for you. Askeryna commands a really fun, simple anime-like art style filled with many meme-like expressions and funny visual gags.
The fantasy world our two newlyweds explore is a little bog-standard. Still, the introduction of newer characters and flashbacks elude pretty damn heavily to our ardent adventurer having a more colorful past. Not that it matters when all I see is rose-tinted through the sweetness on display. The juxtaposition of Angrboda trying to do the most benign task in the most over-the-top way is hilarious (reminds me a lot of Sakamoto Days).
Hubby and Angroba may be idiots, but goddamn it, they're my idiots. Broken bones, hellish monsters, or rampant mayhem seem to do nothing but fan the flames of their love. Seeing them actively adapt to each other's quirks is cute as hell, and I can't wait to see more.
Epilogue
This is a little short, but at this point, you know the drill on comedy webtoons on this. Still, this isn't the last webcomic I cover on Tapas. I'm still trying to get the hang of it, but Tapas's setup and overall display blow Webtoon out of the water, and there are many interesting stories I won't mind checking out. Until then, though, I will shine a spotlight on the first comic book storyline in this cluster.
