Chapter 4 ~ Hike Preparing

Not long after, all of the tents were done being set up and everyone got to relax for the next few minutes.

"X?- Xisuma?"

No response.

"HELLO?"

Xisuma jumped from where he was sitting. "Sorry, I was thinking-"

"Haha, it's fine! Uh, are we gonna go on the hike soon?" JoeHills asked once he had the class president's attention. He looked at his watch and continued speaking, "It's currently 5:30, so if we are, we should get going soon so it doesn't get dark while we're walking."

"Right, thanks for reminding me!" X responded, giving Joe a thumbs-up.

"No problem at all! See you in.."

"Fifteen minutes,"

"Fifteen, okay. Bye!" And with that, Joe was off to go get ready.

"Oh, aren't you just the sweetest kitty!~" Scar cooed quietly, squishing Jellie's cheeks. "Hold on, I'll be right back!" He whispered as he heard someone calling for everyone's attention in the clearing.

"Everyone! We're going on a small hike in about 15 minutes, so get your things together and be ready by then!" Xisumavoid shouted once everyone was in earshot.

Noises of excitement were heard from basically everyone there, but Scar realized he hadn't considered what he would do with Jellie when he wasn't around her. It's- it's fine. She's a good kitty! She'll stay put. Hopefully.

After receiving the news, the brunette walked back to his tent to prepare his backpack for the nature walk. "Hey, what're you going to do about 'you know who'?" Cub confided as he caught up with Scar.

"If I'm being honest. I didn't think about that." Was all he could respond with.

The taller one sighed. "Scar, you gotta think these types of things through if you wanna bring a cat on a camping trip!"

"That's definitely something I'll keep in mind next time I have a crazy idea," He unzipped the tent to reveal a peaceful Jellie resting on his mattress..

Cub chuckled. "I guess she won't be needing her cat bed,"

"It's fine, she sleeps with me every night anyways. At least I know she won't be doing anything she isn't supposed to!"

"What made you bring her, anyway?"

"I'm not really sure. We're usually never apart for more than 12 hours, so we're really used to having each other around. I remember once when I was like- seven maybe, I cried until my mom let me bring her onto the plane with us. Sure, it made everything twenty times more hectic, and we were late for our flight- but I have no regrets to this day!"

Cub laughed in response and they both continued preparing for the hike.

Ten minutes later, the whole class was standing outside ready. A beautiful sunset was expected to be seen at the end of the trail, so even though some (Mumbo) wanted to just go to sleep, no complaints were heard from anyone.

Xisuma did roll call to be sure everyone was present. "Alrighty, Bdubs?"

"Hiya!"

"Cub?"

"Here,"

"Doc?"

"What?" Doc asked, clearly not paying attention to what was happening.

"Okay, um- Etho?" He called again, checking off Doc's name and looking up from his clipboard.

There were a few seconds of silence.

"E-"

"PreSENT!" He yelled, running over to where the rest of the class was.

"Where were you??" X exclaimed.

"I saw a really cute bunny so I chased it!"

Xisuma sighed. "Okay, just don't do that again. Wait- where are Grian and Gem?!"

"Oh yeah, they followed me!" Etho said casually, realizing he probably should've made sure they came back with him. "I'll be back in just a minute."

"X, do you want me to continue roll call while you go search for them?" Joe asked.

"No, I think it'll be fine. They can't be far; but if they aren't back in a few minutes I'll get a few-"

"We're back!" Grian shouted as he, Gem, and Etho came into view again.

"How did you guys get back so fast?" Cleo asked through laughter, impressed but also confused.

"What did I say? I'm fast!" Gemini smirked.

"And I'm small and carry-able!"

The group turned to Etho, expecting an explanation; but at the same time weren't surprised to be met with no answer and instead talking to Doc.

When all distractions were out of the way, Xisuma carried on with roll call. The rest of it ran smoothly, so everyone followed him to the beginning of the trail where they'd be spending the next hour and a half.

I haven't posted a chapter in a while! Sorry about that, I just haven't been in the mood to write as much because I've been drawing a lot. Anyways, I've realized I'm sort of writing a lot of the hermits as cryptid toddlers! And honestly, I'm fine with that! Also my sister taught me a new word and I love it and I feel like I should've known it already  but who cares. I used it in this chapter but I'm not gonna say what it is for my own sake :) ALSO, I know this chapter is short, but it is what it is. Chapters are probably gonna be shorter now! I don't know why but yeah!
