Hermitcraft Camping Trip! (High school AU)

Chapter 7 ~ Lake day.

"RISE AND SHINE, SLEEPYHEADS!" One of the Hermits' yelled through the megaphone, waking the entire forest.

Grian groaned from inside one of the tents. "Wha...? Where Iskall..?"

"Already awake! And you should be too, we're going to the lake today!" They shouted back at Grian from the middle of the clearing, setting down the megaphone for the sake of everyone else's ears.

The campsite began to stir as everyone groggily emerged from their tents to get ready for the exciting day that lay ahead of them. The air was crisp but the sun warmed them, acting as encouragement for all of the Hermits that had just woken up. Those that were awake way before everyone else were Gem, Scar, Joe, Keralis, Wels, and Iskall. Their bags were already packed for the lake, and Iskall and Scar at least were having trouble waiting for everyone else to get ready.

Pearl and Etho woke up at basically the same time, realizing that they slept at the campfire for the whole night.

"Who won?!" Pearl demanded. Iskall turned their head over to where the two were just waking up and laughed.

"We don't know who won, all we know is that for some reason Scar decided to get some fresh air at like- two or three a.m, and found you guys both asleep," They replied. "He felt bad for some reason and woke up Cub, then they gave you guys the extra blankets and pillows X brought."

Etho sighed. "Well, gg Pearl- but I'll win next time, just so we know!"

The Hermits got everything they needed for their fun day at the lake. Apparently it was supposed to be warmer than usual that day, which reassured more than a few of them. Once everyone was ready, they gathered in the clearing so the class president could speak to them all in one place. "All right! Today we're going to the lake, so consider double-checking to make sure you have everything you want or need to bring- Such as sunscreen, water, snacks-"

"Come on! We wanna go to the lake!" One yelled impatiently.

Xisuma let out a sigh, followed by a quiet but sincere chuckle. "Alright, alright, we'll be going now- but know it's not my fault if any of you've forgotten anything!"

All of the Hermits followed X to the path that would lead them to the rest of their day, talking excitingly amongst themselves. The lake wasn't too far away, only about less than a mile. Unlike the hike from the day before, everyone was looking forward to either swimming for the whole time, setting up somewhere along the beach and just chatting, or something in between. Either way, the day ahead of them was going to be fun.

Bdubs caught up with Keralis near the front of the group, where he was talking with Cub and Xisuma. "Hey!" He greeted.

"Oh, hi Bubbles!" Keralis responded cheerfully.

Bdubs liked when Keralis called him Bubbles, and he wasn't sure why. It was just comforting, he always thought; that one of his closest friends had a cute nickname for him- that he wouldn't let anyone else refer to him as.

Xisuma and Cub moved their conversation to just the two of them, letting Bdubs and Keralis talk without them.

"So, what are you gonna do at the lake?" Bdubs started awkwardly, not really sure what to talk about now that he actually was.

"I don't know, what are you gonna do?" The slightly taller one returned.

He paused to think, but didn't put much thought into it. "I guess I'll swim- I mean there's really only two options; swim or don't swim,"

Talking was hard.

Even though Bdubs took Speech and Debate, which was helpful for even just casual talking skills due to the amount of talking required in the class, both him and Keralis were having trouble keeping a conversation going. As the group continued down the sandy path, they silently decided to just enjoy each other's company without conversing at all. That seemed to work better for the both of them.

About fifteen minutes later, the class arrived at the lake. The Hermits, already in groups, split off to either find a nice area on the beach or went straight to the water. "Okay! Rules are," Xisumavoid started. "No littering and no drowning. Oh, and please don't swim if you don't know how to swim. I don't want to be responsible for any of your deaths."

With that said, everyone was off to go have fun. Stress and Gem set up a picnic blanket with a variety of foods, drinks, and other snacks, Mumbo might've been thrown into- encouraged into the lake (No one saw completely what happened), Hypno and xB went scavenging for whatever they could find in or out of the water, Iskall and Scar jumped straight into the lake immediately, and everyone else did anything in between.

"Anyone wanna buy this extremely cool and beautiful piece of driftwood?" xB yelled, central to where all of the Hermits were. Xisuma was about to interject before anyone could even consider buying the piece of wood, but was too late- as Ren was already running over to the seller with money in his sharp-clawed hand. Soon, he came joyfully walking back to where he was set up with his new piece of wood, passing the concerned group leader.

"You realized you were just scammed, right?" He started, catching the dog-hybrid's attention.

"What do you mean, my dude?" Ren put his sunglasses on his head to take a better look at the driftwood he was holding. "It's a perfect piece of wood, great for throwing, carving, catching-"

Xisuma sighed, trying to see what it meant to have from his classmate's perspective. "Nevermind, I'm sure it's- I'm sure it's great."

After the silence lasted long enough to make Ren continue walking back to the group he was sitting with, the brunette observed everyone else. Splashing around in the water, not drowning, talking with friends, eating food..

Maybe he'd let himself relax, at least for the rest of the day.
