We were now in the waiting room, so I could get tested for some mental illnesses. It was just Elijah and me the rest couldn't come with us.
It would be too busy and Elijah was a doctor so he would know better or something.
I don't really know.
But what I do know is that I'm nervous as hell.
My leg was bouncing up and down at a fast pace while my heart beat was going a mile an hour.
I know that we need to do this, so I may get better but...what if it doesn't work or something..I don't know.
"Family Hernandez" A doctor came out of a room and called for us.
Elijah stood up and reached out his hand for me to take.
I stood up too and grabbed Elijah's hands.
"Yes, we're here" Elijah called out in that scary emotionless tone as always.
"Follow me" the doctor called out and walked away, leading us to a different hallway and then a room.
While walking Elijah kept rubbing circles on my hand while walking hand in hand.
I'm sure he could feel my rapit heart beat against him.
We walked inside with the doctor, he sat down at the back of the desk on the office chair while Elijah and I said in front of the desk opposite too him.
I kept looking around or at my hands, fidgeting with my rings while my leg was still bouncing.
I couldn't help but notice how the doctor kept looking at these things.
So I tried to stop but then found something else to try and control the anxiety.
"I'm doctor Richard, and you must be Valentina. What can I do for you today?" He asked while I nodded at his guessing for my name.
I looked at Elijah for him to answer, I'm still scared of these fucking men. After all they did to me, I can't trust him.
Elijah noticed my scared gaze and I think he understood why when he answered the question.
"We are here to get her tested for some mental illnesses." He said in the same monotone voice.
"Well we first will get started with a physical exam, so we rule out that physical problems are the cause of your symptoms.
After that we will do some lab tests. These may include, for example, a check of your thyroid function or a screening for alcohol and drugs. Then at last we will get a psychological evaluation. Is that okay for you?" He asked me."I don't want you to touch me in the physical exam" I said barely above a whisper while looking down.
But I know he heard.
"Is there a reason you don't want me to touch you?" He asked.
"Yes" I stated simply.
"I can do the physical exam, I'm a doctor too. Just tell me what I need to do" Elijah took hand of the situation noticing that I'm uncomfortable and wouldn't want to talk about it.
—
After some more pursuing, Elijah convinced the doctor to let him do the physical exam on me, but the doctor wanted to talk too him first.
So right now I was just alone in the room for a moment.
After some more waiting they both came back, the doctor and Elijah.
We walked somewhere else, where Elijah started the physical exam on me while the doctor watched.
The doctor seemed nice but you never know who a person truly is.
"Thanks for doing this Lijah, I know this isn't exactly fun for you, sorry" I apologised making sure that the doctor couldn't hear what I was saying.
He smiled at the nickname, " you don't have to say sorry, I know it's hard to let men touch you because of what they did to you in the past but there are some people who you can trust you know. That is just a doctor who wants to help you, there are people who have other intentions, there will always be men or women with bad intentions. You just need to find the right people to trust, to know that they won't hit you like the others did." He said giving me a gentle smile.
I nodded my head giving him a little smile.
Maybe he is right.
There will always be people on the planet who will have bad intentions with you but there are also beautiful things and people who don't do that.
Trusting someone isn't as easy as some may think it is, if your trust has been broken so many times before, it will be hard to trust someone again.
Men have hurt me in the past a lot and they probably will in the future and I won't be able to escape that, but there will also be men who aren't like that.
The doctor could be harmless or dangerous and I need to learn how to notice the difference between people who are harmless and people who are dangerous.
———
All the exams were done and we are now just waiting for the test results from the doctor.
I'm pretty scared to be honest, for the results I mean.
What if my family sends me away after hearing the results deciding that they don't want to deal with that all, or what if the doctor decides that I need to go to one of those creepy clinics.
My leg started shaking again while my breathing picked up.
"Lijah" I whimpered scared as my chest tightened.
He turned his head to me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He calmly asked.
"What if the results are bad and y'all send me away because you don't want to deal with it all or if the doctor sends me too one of those clinics where they fill you up with medication and stuff" I breathed out my heart rate speeding up.
I started hyperventilating with a scared expression.
I gripped my heart and scratched my neck trying to get air in that wasn't going in right now.
"I-..I can't breathe"
Elijah stood up quickly and bend down in front of me.
"Honey, I need you to look at me" I did what he said before he continued, "we're not going to send or let anyone else send you away, how bad the results may be" He said.
I did help hearing that, but I couldn't stop the panicking state I was in.
"Look around name 5 things you can see right now"
——
"Good job baby, now take a deep breath with me. In...and out. Well done, and again in...and out"
Elijah gently picked me up before putting me on his lap where he stroked my hair and back calming me down.
"Thank you Lijah" I whispered.
"I'll always help you baby, always"
I rested my head against his chest while closing my eyes, trying to match our heart rate since mine was still pretty high.
A few minutes later the doctor came back in with the results.
He sat down behind his desk before he opened his file.
