Breaking Ninja Code Pt. 1

Hi everyone, long time no see 😭

I went back and reread this entire book to remember where I was going with the plot 😂. I check Wattpad every day but I get stuck every time I go to actually write.

I feel SO RUSTY writing again and it feels odd to pick up the plot after having been on hiatus so long. But here's a plot chapter, sorry if I took too long of a break and you forgot what this story is about 😂

This is a plot/Flashback Chapter as it goes back 30 years to when Kakashi was a child. This and the next chapter will focus on Sakumo Hatake's Final Mission, where he broke ninja Code.

"I can't believe I would witness a war this great for the second time in my life." Hiruzen Sarutobi's hand tightened into a fist stop the Hokage's desk as he stared a map that contained the locations of allied squadrons across the world,"It's truly deplorable."

"I agree, sir." Sakumo lifted his head after taking a knee to address the Third Hokage who had summoned him.

"It seems that this war may be coming to an end. The factions that were uprising in the border villages of each country have been neutralized, and the ones remaining are seeming to disband on their own." Sarutobi stood from his desk, a wooden pipe in his hand as he contemplated the battles strategies he could use to finally end and win the Second Great Shinobi War,"However, there is one more move I think the Leaf could make, that could possibly end this all."

"What do you have in mind sir?" Sakumo questioned his senior, wondering why he was being let in on this information.

"As I'm sure you know, the Sand launched an attack on one of our largest squadrons and I feel that it's time to retaliate. I believe it would be in the world's best interest to eliminate the Shirogane Clan in the Land of Wind." The Third Hokage stated plainly, making Sakumo's eyes slightly widen with his matter-of-fact tone of voice.

He needed clarity on the situation,"Eliminating a whole clan, sir? Why this clan in particular?"

"For months now, we have had our ANBU stationed around the Land of Wind. Hiding in plain sight on an espionage mission in an effort to find inside information on the enemy that could be used against them. You know, what their military numbers look like, what weaponry they possess, plans of attack, etc." Hiruzen lit his pipe and took a hit, casually blowing the smoke out the window of the Hokage's tower overlooking the village,"They have returned. And their mission reports that the Sand is building an army of puppets comprised of "puppet walkers" to be controlled by the puppet masters of the Shirogane Clan - the leaders of which are coincidentally husband and wife. I fear that if these puppets were to be completed and realized to their true potential, we could be facing an enemy that we could not defeat. They could have numbers into the hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions, for several puppets can be controlled by one master, even over long distances."

Hiruzen sighed and continued,"In addition to their direct attack against the Leaf's Shinobi Forces, they have been kidnapping people. Anyone they find vulnerable enough to snag up. Travelers, merchants, children playing in the woods, just to run their experimentations to develop these 'puppet walkers'. Some of those unfortunate people were from the Land of Fire..."

Sakumo's gaze hardened, listening to the shocking classified details as they rolled off the Hokage's tongue,"And you called me in here just to tell me that? Or am I right in assuming that you want me for some mission regarding this army of puppets?"

The Hokage chuckled before taking another hit out of his pipe,"The White Fang of the Leaf. I'm sure you've heard this nickname by now? It's been circulating from village to village. You have earned yourself quite the reputation during this war. Your abilities have even surpassed those of my beloved students."

Hiruzen spared a passing thought to picture the young faces of Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru.

Sakumo stood tall in accepting the compliment, yet his meek demeanor still shrouded any sense of pride that he may have had, if there was any boastful pride at all,"Thank you sir. I'm just doing my best to fulfill my duty as a Shinobi and-"

"And carry out your Will of Fire, eh Sakumo?" Hiruzen turned, flashing a smile before sitting back down in his chair,"I know you want to protect the Village, its people, and no doubt Kakashi as well."

Sakumo eagerly nodded his head,"You are right sir. I'd especially like to try my hand at making a better world for Kakashi to live in."

"I knew I summoned the right person for this mission." Hiruzen settled at his desk, unscrolling a mission dossier to review with the White Fang,"I want you to assemble an elite four man squad to travel to the Land of Wind. Your mission sounds simple but its actual execution may prove to be difficult. You are to destroy their supply of puppets and eliminate the members of the Shirogane Clan."

"Right, sir." Sakumo did not hesitate, his desire to fulfill his Shinobi duty at full force as he thought about protecting his Village and his six-year old son. He even spared a passing thought to Tsuki Kuraku, the six-year old girl who was a member of a pacifistic clan that really made an impression on him in his travels. He realized his Shinobi duty extended further than just the Village, he devoted his life to protecting the entire country of the Land of Fire. For he wished for the little ones to live on in a peaceful world. Little ones like Kakashi and Tsuki.

Hiruzen clarified further,"This is an A-ranked mission of extreme importance. The details of how to infiltrate the Land of Wind are listed in the mission document. You have three days to gather your squad members and anything you may need for your travels."

"Right, sir." Sakumo stood attention.

"Thank you for coming by, Sakumo." Hiruzen excused the military hero,"I know I can count on you for this."

"Of course, sir." Sakumo exited the office, then the Tower, only to find himself home before he knew it. He slid open the door to the home that housed him and his only child. As he passed his bedroom in the hallway, he peeked in to find Kakashi soundly sleeping in his tatami mat, he chuckled to see that his son had grown to wear his mask at all times, even while sleeping.

Sakumo doffed his clothes for the night, turning the shower knob to extra hot to wash off the stress of the day and to contemplate the new stress of this highly important mission assigned to him directly by the Hokage. He thought out carefully who he planned to choose for an elite squad. There was no doubt in his mind that he trusted his best Shinobi friends with his life:

1. Shikaden Nara
2. Botan Hōki
3. Hoeru Inuzuka

With these three plus the addition of himself, he had decided upon his four man squad.

After his shower, Sakumo retired, planning to spend the next three days studying the mission scroll and gathering supplies for the journey to the Sand Village.

Sorry for the short chapter! I'm just trying to get back into writing!!

Fun Fact: The Shirogane Clan is from a Naruto Video Game where they abducted people to create "puppet walkers". So I'm using lore from that video game in this story! It just happened to fit perfectly with what I had in mind 🤌🏻
