Iwaizumi woke that morning to find Matsukawa snuggled into his side, a firm arm around Iwaizumi's waist, the other resting over the top of his head, Matsukawa subconsciously playing with Iwaizumi's hair in his sleep.
Iwaizumi's body tensed as a blush so firm he couldn't even deny it rose to his cheeks.
But no. Matsukawa is taken, by his best friend of all people. He couldn't do that to Hanamaki, especially since that man is also his crush.
Sometimes Iwaizumi wishes that they would all get together in a mutual relationship. Polyamory.
Iwaizumi had researched it after he found himself gaining feelings for more than one person at once.
Matsukawa stirred next to him, digging his head into Iwaizumi's side and nuzzling there before lifting his head up and groggily opening his eyes.
"Morning 'Jime" Iwaizumi felt his heart swell, his fingers itching to reach out and caress the man before him.
But no. He couldn't do that.
"Morning." Iwaizumi got out of bed, running a hand through his unkempt hair, trying to ignore the steadily deepening blush that be couldn't seem to get rid off around makki and mattsun.
Matsukawa tiredly stumbled out the room and into the kitchen, Iwaizumi trailing after him.
Iwaizumi observed the way the man's shoulder blades moved, contorting with each stretch and swing of his arms.
Matsukawa turned around to smile at him and Iwaizumi felt his chest flutter, the blush coming back.
Matsukawa turned back to put his shoes on, deciding to skip out on breakfast and Iwaizumi panicked, not wanting the man to leave so soon.
"Yo matts-"
"Gotta jet, me and Taka have couple plans today."
Dang. That stung.
Well, Iwaizumi guesses he can't be the luckiest guy on earth, he's lucky enough to have them in his life anyway.
"Cool, use protection." Iwaizumi prided himself on making sure his voice didn't come out too hurt or squeaky but Matsukawa still furrowed his eyebrows slightly at the man before chuckling at the comment.
He let it go pretty quickly and left, waving to Iwaizumi and thanking him for letting him crash even though Mattsun practically lived there.
-
Iwaizumi decided that today was a good day to go visit Oikawa again. He was down about the whole crush situation and yet Oikawa always seemed to put a smile on his face so why not.
It was a small commute, and Oikawa opened the door after two less knocks than last time. So all in all, pretty alright so far.
"Sup Kawa, you good?" Oikawa was still in his alien pyjamas, his hair was sticking out everywhere, drool dried on his chin. "Sorry for waking you."
Oikawa only smiled shyly in return. "Uhm, I'm Okay Iwaizumi. How are you? ...and it's okay, i usually get up around this time anyway."
"I've been...alright." Oikawa noticed the hesitance but didn't comment on it, he didn't want to pry and have Iwaizumi hate him, or hurt him for trying to get too involved, or laugh at his sympathy, or-
"So, you're still into all that space shit?" It wasn't said in a harmful way but it still made Oikawa fret over the wording, even if deep down he knew that it was just how Iwaizumi conversed.
"Oh...no, i just- i just threw on these before bed, too tired to care really." He wished that was the case for everything.
It was then that Oikawa realised that they were still awkwardly stood in the entrance way so Oikawa offered to make Iwaizumi a tea as the latter shrugged his jacket off and hung it at the door.
"Do you still...like catching bugs?" It was one of the only things Oikawa could still remember from their childhood, Iwaizumi dragging him out to catch bugs then threatening to put them on him in his sleep. He didn't sleep for a while after that.
"Hm? Oh, no. That stayed in my kid days, although i still love those little critters." Iwaizumi smiled, thinking about all the individual bugs he caught, named and tried to feed before letting them go. A simpler time.
Oikawa chuckled, the kettle whirring in the background.
"So, i was thinking, how about you meet my friends? They're pretty cool." The moment Iwaizumi said 'how about you meet-' Oikawa panicked.
Meeting people meant leaving the house and leaving the house meant bad things happened.
And what if Iwaizumi's friends didn't like him? What if they gossiped about him to everyone they knew, or thought he was weird or boring or both?
But if he said no, Iwaizumi might not like it, he might get angry or upset. He might shun Oikawa, or tell all his friends that Oikawa is mean and-
"Can i think about it?"
"Oh, uh, okay." Well Atleast that gave him a bit of time.
He knew getting out and meeting people would be good for him but he can't even answer the door without his stomach turning so how would he be able to leave the house?
The kettle pinged, startling Oikawa slightly as the conversation dropped. Iwaizumi sat down at the kitchen island as Oikawa stirred milk into the teas, a silence falling over the two.
It wasn't uncomfortable but Oikawa hated that it let him think.
"So, what do i need to know about your friends before i meet them?" It wasn't necessarily him saying yes but he could tell that Iwaizumi definitely took it as that by the way the man's eyes lit up.
"Oh! Well, Mattsun is very chill and also surprisingly clingy but it's not a bad thing at all. And Makki! Makki is a total prankster and he's always making some kind of joke out of something. They're both really awesome actually but...don't tell them i said that Shittykawa."
Iwaizumi cut his rambling short, blushing in embarrassment at how excited he got to talk about them. It made Oikawa smile that Iwaizumi seemed to have such great people surrounding him. He didn't want to get in the way of that.
"Wow, they sound great. Why don't you bring them round next time you come over?"
He really didn't want to get in the way but he really wanted to see the amazingness for himself. Maybe, just maybe, he could let his walls down for once. For Iwaizumi.
For the guy he fell in love with years ago.
