"Guys? What are you doing here?"

Iwaizumi was awoken by the sound of fists pounding down on his bedroom door, a couple giggles and then three boys barging in. This wasn't an unusual occurrence in Iwaizumi's life but it still managed to startle him every time, not to mention his disorientation from being woken up so suddenly.

"We came to hang!" Hanamaki had a big smile plastered on his face as he threw his arms up, Oikawa was stood behind him, gripping onto his shirt as if he was trying to hide himself away.

Oikawa hadn't been to Iwaizumi's house since they were kids, it was weird, not hearing the thumping of the small brunette running up the stairs, laughter as joyful as ever as him and Iwaizumi played a game of tag. It was weird to not see the same ten year old gripping onto that Alien plushie and sobbing into it at the news of his fathers sudden death.

But it was nice. Nice to see the progression Oikawa had made with his anxiety, finally mustering up the courage to make his way to Iwaizumi's house. Maybe soon some time he'd be okay enough to do it by himself. Maybe then the thumping and the laughter would become a constant again, hopefully not followed by the sobbing, he couldn't stand the searing pain of how Oikawa, at only thirteen, broke right in front of him, eventually drifting away.

"Oh, yeah, sorry for not being around much, Mum needed me home for a bit." The three progressed into the room as Iwaizumi sat up fully, Matsukawa flopping onto the bed next to him and lazily throwing an arm around Iwaizumi's waist.

Hanamaki removed Oikawa's hand from his shirt, opting to hold onto it instead as they closed the door and also made their way over, having no qualms with having to squeeze onto Iwaizumi's small single bed.

They cuddled up together, laughing and occasionally play fighting which turned into a full blown arm wrestling match, Iwaizumi winning every round and Hanamaki sulking until he (Iwaizumi obviously letting him but they didn't mention it) won.

Eventually they got restless, everyone getting hungry and thirsty, Iwaizumi, with a protest from Matsukawa, got out of bed to get some snacks and drinks, Oikawa decided to follow, Not liking the jittery feeling his body got from sitting for too long.

Oikawa felt at home here. Iwaizumi's home was a core memory from his childhood, a memory from a time that wasn't so hard and draining and anxiety filled. It filled his chest with warmth, being back here gave him the ability to gain some part of his childhood back.

Mrs. Iwaizumi was in the kitchen, humming to herself as she organised random stuff around the kitchen. "Oh! Hajime, Oikawa-kun, you boys alright?"

"Yep, Just grabbing some snacks and drinks." Oikawa nodded silently, following Iwaizumi around the kitchen like a lost puppy. Except he was familiar with this place, it had proven to be a second home to him but now it almost felt unfamiliar. It felt unfamiliar as he felt Mrs. Iwaizumi's stare on his back, it almost felt cold.

Just as they were leaving the kitchen, She spoke up, Tense as she did. "Hajime. Can we have a moment please?" Iwaizumi seemed to tense as well and Oikawa shivered under the intense stare of someone he used to see as a second mother. He could feel his hands start to tremble, his head feeling cloudy. He couldn't stand to be hated by someone so dear to him, even after all these years.

"Oh yeah. Sure...uhm," Iwaizumi turned to Oikawa and was about to ask him to go back upstairs until Mrs. Iwaizumi spoke again.

"You can stay Oikawa. Actually, I'd prefer if you did." Oikawa looked down at his feet, trying to calm the tremors ripping through his body.

"oh, Okay." It was shaky and breathy, Oikawa struggling with forming proper sentences.

"What's going on Mum?"

"I have made my decision Hajime." Oikawa saw Iwaizumi's face drop, anticipation seeping into his features. Oikawa furrowed his eyebrows, he didn't understand why he was asked to stay. "Don't tell your father, this stays between us. What I'm doing could be considered illegal." Her face was set sternly, her hands having a vice grip on the mug she was in the middle of putting away.

"Wait so...You'll do it?" Iwaizumi suddenly smiled and Oikawa felt his cheeks heat up, he was still confused but seeing Iwaizumi smile like that was worth everything he'd feel, no matter what. Confusion, fear, happiness. Iwaizumi's smile was so beautiful.

Iwaizumi's mother sighed, her features relaxing, she seemed conflicted, maybe even a little saddened. "Yes...Oikawa-Kun, do you think I could talk to you alone for a moment?" Iwaizumi looked back at Oikawa, giving him a reassuring smile and taking the snacks out of his arms to bring upstairs. Once they were left alone, Iwaizumi's mother sighed again, it was heavy and Oikawa sympathised the obvious mental battle she was having right now. He knew what that was like.

"Toru...Well, I'll just get straight to it, Me and Hajime talked this morning and he asked me if...if I could step in as your mother when the social worker visits. I've decided to do it. I don't exactly know why but...You're a sweet kid Toru, I only want the best for you." Her voice was hushed but deep with honesty. Oikawa needed a second to process it.

He was angry. Iwaizumi had told his mother about his situation after he specifically asked him not to. Anger wasn't something he felt often, or at all really, but now...now he was livid.

Oikawa curled his fists into a ball, feeling his nails dig into his palms, his knuckles going white, he could feel his blood rushing to his ears. Who else had Iwaizumi told? Had the social worker only shown up because Iwaizumi's mother, someone he saw as a second mother, had told them? Had he gone through all of this just because of them?

Oikawa could feel his body shaking, not in fear this time though, no, His body was burning with rage. All he had gone through because of this boy that he loved? This boy he had found comfort in, This boy he had trusted?

oh boy, Iwaizumi's smile wasn't going to save him this time.
