"Yo zumi!"
Matsukawa huffed as he was finally able to catch up to Iwaizumi on their path to school.
"Damn, you walk fast man."
"Nah, you just smoke too much." Matsukawa chuckled, regaining his breath and patting Iwaizumi on the back as the two fell into a synchronised step.
"How was your night with Taka?" Iwaizumi didn't really want to know, it kinda hurt too much.
Matsukawa noticed the way Iwaizumi's fingers twitched, his eyebrows furrowing as he asked the question. He decided to think nothing of it.
"Oh it was great! I won't gross you out with too many details though."
Those were the last words before they split at the gate, their classes being in totally different directions.
Iwaizumi was glad Matsukawa had said that. The details weren't exactly gross but they were something Iwaizumi definitely wouldn't be able to handle.
Getting to his class, Iwaizumi strode to his seat, letting out a huff as he sat down. He could already feel it in his chest that today was going to be a weird day.
"Yo Iwaizumi," Hanamaki, who conveniently sat next to him, spoke up before the teacher could walk in. "I need to talk to you after class. It's important."
And there it was. His chest tightened.
"Kay."
They didn't speak for the rest of the class. Mostly because the teacher was scary and partly because a tension had grown between them since Hanamaki's statement.
Class ended all too soon, Iwaizumi felt like he couldn't breathe with the way his chest was constricting . Hanamaki was talkative, the silence meant that this really was important.
Hanamaki led Iwaizumi to the roof, a place where no other students go, he felt his breathing go short.
"Whats up?" He barely got it out, his throat stung from the way he had to force the words out.
"I just...i want you to know that i love you kay?"
What was happening?
The words 'i love you' made a fire burn within Iwaizumi, it made his eyes water, he couldn't hold back the way his jaw hung open in confusion, in anticipation and slight dread.
Hanamaki didn't carry on, obviously waiting for Iwaizumi to say something.
"I know, i love you too." Did Hanamaki know just how he meant that? "What's going on?"
"I need more Iwaizumi." Iwaizumi had no idea what he meant. More of what? Did Hanamaki want him to say more than that? But what? His head was spinning.
"...more?" The wind ripped through them, ruffling Hanamaki's shirt, picking up the loose strands of hair that rest on his head, blowing them here there and everywhere. He looked so beautiful but the look on his face was stone cold.
The wind didn't even affect him.
"Something is missing, something important. I know you feel it too Iwaizumi. And I'm sick of keeping my mouth shut. I'm sick of almost saying your name when me and Matsukawa fuck and I'm sick of him seeing specks of your green eyes in mine. I'm sick of this void in my head that longs for more. I need you. I need Mattsun and i need more."
Iwaizumi was stuck in a stunned silence. Hanamaki didn't stutter or waver, he wholeheartedly meant every word he said.
He wanted Iwaizumi, he wanted Mattsun, they were the same.
He wanted more. That's what confused him. More of what?
"...more?" He was going in a loop.
"Something is missing Iwaizumi. Someone."
"What?" He really had no clue what Hanamaki was getting at. Hanamaki stayed silent so Iwaizumi carried on the conversation.
"I- i like you too, and Matsukawa aswell. Obviously."
"Who else Iwaizumi?" Iwaizumi didn't answer that. He didn't want to. He felt his phone buzz in his pocket. Probably Matsukawa asking where they were. He'd probably get to the roof any minute now.
"Who. Else?"
His face was stern. Scary, even. Iwaizumi couldn't lie to himself any longer, couldn't lie to him.
"Oikawa."
The door to the roof opened, startling Iwaizumi. Hanamaki smiled wide, going to hug Matsukawa, Iwaizumi was stuck in place, the previous conversation frazzling him to his spot.
The fact that Hanamaki was the same as him. The fact that he still loved Oikawa after all this time. The fact that Hanamaki was the one to rip that out of him.
He didn't know wether to hate or thank him.
"Sup Zumi." Iwaizumi couldn't even speak. Everything was so fragile now, his heart, his chest, his words.
"You man, you good?" Matsukawa put a hand on Iwaizumi's shoulder, walking round to face him.
"Uh...i- gotta go." He left the roof. Left a confused Matsukawa and an all too knowing Hanamaki. More importantly, he left Oikawa in that lonely room by himself.
"Well, that was weird."
"Matsukawa. We have to talk."
And the dam cracked.
