Chapter 18
Getting the truth out of Jason was as hard as getting a child to do their chores. Over and over again Jason had told me to go to bed and that we would talk about the "hybrids" tomorrow. But I remember the exact moment where he put down his walls, trusted me to handle the truth and told me everything he knew. It wasn't anything physical perse, more of a change in aura, I felt the tense and unsure presences in the room shift and that's when I knew I was in for something big;
*Flash back to 2 night ago*
"Jason I'm not tired, I want to know what it means, I have a right to know and I know you know something" He took in a long breath and I watched as his chest expanded. We were sitting on his bed, Jason taking his time to prepare whatever speech he could come up with to deter me in my search for the truth.
His hand reached for mine but instead I stood up in defiance and crossed my arms, waiting for his explanation. "No Jason, I know what you are going to do, you are going to hold my hand tell me some sweet words about protection, love and devotion and I will fall for it all because your hand is touching mine and I will not let that happen, again"
He sighed and hung his head. "Ok"
"I don't even know where to start" I sat back over on the bed, sitting directly in front of him ready to listen. "Start with the basics, what exactly is a Hybrid?"
"That's the thing, to even start I would need to know what's myth and what's actually truth"
"You mean this thing, this hybrid possibly doesn't even exist?"
"Well I mean there have been prophecies and legends, stories of sighting and great massacres of villages within minutes by just one of these things" A whole village? How was that even possible?
"What exactly is it though?" I asked with nerves making my voice quiver.
"From what I've heard, a hybrid is basically a supernatural cocktail of vampires and werewolves. They can live off both blood and normal food, their supernatural abilities are heightened tenfold and they are immune to basically anything that would normally harm a werewolf or a vampire"
"How can something like that even exist? Would a vampire have to bite a werewolf for that to happen?"
"A bite would do nothing but to change someone into a vampire, a vampire has to basically drain them dry first then when they are on the brink of life they inject some of their own blood into their victim and that's that. But we have something in our blood that resists the change, the venom damages all our vital organs and makes our blood clog up and expand, we basically burst" He cleared his throat and looked away. "It's not a very pretty sight" He tensed his jaw, had he seen something like this before?
"I'm not sure why your mother would even mention hybrids. The last possible sighting was over 300 years ago and even then there wasn't all that much evidence to say it was a real hybrid, just rumours"
I could understand why Jason was cautious about this subject. What could he tell me about some monster if he wasn't even certain it existed?
*Back to the present*
There was a knock on Jason's bedroom door, I rolled up off the bed managing not to wake my sleeping mate. I was beyond shocked when I saw the late night knocker behind the door and it took all my strength to keep my shock hidden.
"Jennifer?" She wasn't as conspicuous as me and showed her shock clearly all over her face.
"Oh, Sarah I didn't think-I mean is um, Jason awake?"
"No" I quickly scanned my watch. "It's 2:30 in the morning why would he be awake?" She wanted to scowl at me, I could see her trying to hold back with all her might.
"And more to the fact Jennifer why would you need him at 2:30 in the morning?" Making me get out of the loving arms of my boyfriend was one thing, requesting to see him was a whole different thing. She seemed to regain her composure and stand tall, there was a glint in her eye as if she had a hold over me.
"Has she not heard the news? We are the mate of the Alpha! Not to mention a soon to be very powerful demigoddess!" Izadora growled.
"I am here on official business Sarah, as my father is second in command to the reigning Alpha he and I are usually here late with Jason's father. I was asked to fetch Jason as there have been more attacks on our pack" A lump had formed in my throat and I could feel the colour in cheeks slowly drain away.
Jennifer seemed to relish in my fear.
"More attacks?" I asked hesitantly.
"Yes, three more people have been brutally murdered" she said with not even a hint of remorse.
"I will inform Jason" And I closed the door before she could utter another word.
I stroked Jason's arm gently and he stirred quietly, moaning as he slowly woke. "Mm Sarah?"
"Jason you need to wake up" He's eyes became fully alert and I watched as he searched my eyes.
"What's the matter? Is everything alright?" I shook my head 'no'.
"There have been three more murders" Jason started rushing around his room, gathering his clothes and shoes.
"Jason, don't you think we should tell them about the message? About the hybrid?"
"Sarah, you don't understand. My father has only recently started to see me as a man, started including me in pack meetings and Alpha duties, if I were to bring up something as ridiculous as a Hybrid he would send me right back to the kiddie table"
"Why is it so ridiculous that a creature like that could exist?! I mean for god sakes Jason you are a werewolf, I am half werewolf and half god! And by us not mentioning something that could potentially help stop the attacks isn't it worth the risk?"
"Look I don't have time for this, stay here and I will be back for you" He started walking towards the door when I called out.
"No!" He stopped in his tracks and turned back around.
"I want to come with you"
"Sarah, no. I don't think this is the right time for you to start coming to meetings"
"And when would be the right time Jason?"
"When all of this blows over! When things won't be so difficult and dangerous"
"Sounds to me like you're putting me at the kiddies table Jason"
"That's not what this is, please Sarah just stay here. We can talk about this when I come back" He tried to give me a kiss on the lips but I turned my head away, he hesitated for a split moment and settled for a kiss on my forehead and then dashed out of his room, leaving me alone, at the kiddies table.
I couldn't help but notice every time Jason wanted to put an argument on hold he would try to give me kiss, like the kiss would seal my lips and that was it.
I felt irritable and agitated which certainly meant I was in for no sleep tonight, especially in this room sleeping on his bed.
I flicked through my phone and saw a name that I knew would come and rescue me, no matter the time.
The phone rang only twice before they picked up.
"Hello"
"Hey sorry it's late, but um do you think you could help a girl out?"
