Chapter 21

It had been three days later after "The incident" and I had been dreading this day more than anything.
I was sitting in the back seat of my father's car, my arm in a sling, concealer heavy on my face and dressed in black. John sat beside me occasionally shooting me worrying glances, every so often I would see him open his mouth about to say something and then quickly shutting it, keeping the silence in the car awkward and depressing.

I felt the car stop and dare not look out the window because I was scared, scared that if I looked out we wouldn't be at a traffic light but instead would be at the funeral home. None of this was meant to be real, I kept telling myself that it was a dream and that I would wake up at any moment but after three days it was foolish to keep believing that.

The door opened and I saw a hand reach in, offering assistance I looked at it for a long moment before pushing it aside and pushing myself out of the car with my one good hand. Jason bit his lip at my response and just closed the car door. He walked beside me looking me over, I could see he wanted to say something but before he got a chance I stopped him.

"Sarah I just"

"No Jason, not today. Today is not the day we do this, today is Andy's day and I want to be able to say goodbye to him without thinking about us. OK?" He took in a shaky breath and nodded.

The funeral was nothing as I expected, I thought I would start crying as soon as it started but not a single tear fell from my eyes. If anything I felt anger surging through me, as I was one of the little amount of people who knew what actually happened that night and was not fooled by the fake story of how Andy was savagely attacked by a wild animal, I knew his killer was still out there and I would not be satisfied until she was brought to justice.

After the wake had finished I started walking back to the car, Jason walking closely beside me. I stood at the passenger's side door looking over the hills of the cemetery, feeling numb and immense pain all at once.

"Sarah?" Jason asked stepping outside of the car. I heard my name but was unable to respond, I stood motionless beside the car unable to move. I felt Jason's fingertips brush my arm lightly and could feel his healing touch warm my skin. Already I felt better but I quickly took my arm away from him.

"Sarah please, talk to me" He said with a quiver to his voice.

"I just can't right now"

"Can't what? Help me out here Sarah so I can help you. I don't know what to do here and I want to make you feel better" He reached out his hand slowly for my arm with good intentions I'm sure.

"Jason I can't let you heal me, not now, not while IT is still out there. If you heal me I will forget the pain and I need this pain right now" My stomach churned at the thought of her, she made me so sick I actually thought I might vomit but instead I swallowed my nausea and focused on my anger for her.

"Sarah, this wasn't your fault, don't put the blame on yourself for what happened"

"I can't help it Jason, he was right there and then he was gone. He died in my arms, mine" I stifled back my tears and looked away.

"It's up to me to exact his revenge. He deserves to rest in peace knowing she is in pieces" It was at that exact moment that the wind changed its direction and I could smell the same sickly scent that had plagued me for the last three nights, it was hers and she was close by. I looked back over the hills of the cemetery and just on the border of the forest and the cemetery, she was there.

I knew she knew I had picked up on her scent and that I had seen her figure blur into the forest taunting me to go after her.

"Sarah?" Without hesitation I tore off my sling and I broke into a sprint, I ran through my injuries not caring if what I was doing would make them worse, I couldn't lose this opportunity, I wasn't sure when I would see her again. Using the element of air to speed up my running I quickly caught up with Jennifer and when I saw her satiny black hair disappear behind the trees I reached out my hand, caught the end of her hair and pulled her backwards and threw her into the ground creating a small crater in the earth.

She laughed maniacally, her teeth had sharpened and elongated since that night, her skin was decaying and her eyes had splotches of red throughout them. She lifted herself out of the crater and brushed off the dirt on her clothes.

"Don't I know you from somewhere?" She asked whilst still laughing, I lunged at her but she quickly escaped.

"Oh yeah, that's right you're the one that let her friend die" I lunged at her again, missing her entirely.

"If you ask me, it sounds like you're a pretty lousy friend" She said as she leaned over my body. She quickly moved to a tree across from me and leaned against it as inspected her fingernails. I growled at her blasé attitude.

"Oh no did I make the little Luna mad? What are you gonna do, call your boyfriend?" She mocked.

"You're going to wish Jason was the one thatfound you"
