Chapter Nine
I was filled with mixed emotions as I watched Lucas meet his mate. Excitement and overjoyed were the first things I felt surge through me but as my gaze drifted away from the new happy couple I saw John and those emotions quickly disappeared and were replaced with anxiety and heartbreak.
John looked despondent at first but as he connected the dots I could almost hear what he was thinking 'Lucas has found his mate, now he want anything to do with me.' John abruptly looked up at me and I could my heart breaking for him. In a split second his entire composure changed from depressed to furious, he was breathing heavily, nostrils flaring and I could see the whites of his knuckles as he clenched his fists.
I started to walk towards him but before I made it two steps towards him, he had already bolted. My first instinct was to follow him but suddenly I felt Jason's firm grip around my wrist stopping me from going after him. "Let him cool off Sarah, he looked pretty pissed and he would hate himself if he accidentally hurt you" I nodded and he let go of my wrist. "Not to mention what I would do if he hurt you" Jason encircled me with his large arms and started stroking my hair, gently releasing me of all my stress. I let his touch and scent soothe me as I got comfortable in his embrace.
"Come on, let me introduce you to our pack" I had completely forgotten the reason I was actually here 'the murders.' But the way people were talking and reacting around me you wouldn't of guessed they had just lost two members of their pack. I asked Jason why this was and he said it was because of me.
"A Luna is like a second mother to a werewolf, they love her and want to please her. With you being around at a time like this it's actually taking their minds off the loss of their fellow pack members, your presence alone soothes people" I hadn't realized that I had that much of an effect on this pack.
"And here I was thinking my job was to stand next to you and make you look pretty" I poked my tongue out at him and he poked his tongue right back at me. We greeted more people and slowly made our way towards the dining room, I could see Jason's mother and father standing at the back of the room talking intently to two other werewolves.
"Mum, Dad" Jason called out as we walked towards them. I had met Jason's parents a few times since we had come out as a couple, Heather and Cain. They had welcomed me into their family with open arms the first time they had met me, they treated me as their daughter accepting me and all my flaws.
"Jason, Sarah" Heather called out. They excused themselves from their conversation and joined us, it was as normal of a conversation you could have at a time like, "How have you been?" "Any news?" things like that. People started to fill the room and we took our seats next to the podium and I watched as Jason's dad stand strong and tall behind it.
"Let us begin" Alpha Cain's voice boomed and put all talking to a stand still. I listened in for the most part of the meeting trying to take in every word that came out of the Alphas mouth but my eyes couldn't help but wonder to certain people in the crowd, a few people from my school, two males watching me and not Alpha Cain. They were both Jason's friends but I just couldn't remember their names, every time I would look back over to them one was always staring, the boy with the jet black hair, thin lips and a look that could kill. I ignored them the best I could and was thankful for when Alpha Cain said. "If there isn't any questions, this meeting is dismissed" The room was silent for a few moments, the Alpha nodded his head and we all went our separate ways.
I pulled out my phone whilst Jason was talking to his dad and tried calling John. "This is John, There's a beep coming, I think you know what to do" "John it's just me, I'm really worried about you, please call me back as soon as you get this" I tapped my foot impatiently, willing my phone to ring from John.
