Chapter 25
"A nursery room? Dad what are you trying to say? That great Aunt Abigail had a baby with a vampire? Its impossible!" Jason said flabbergasted.
"Keep your voice down boy!" Cain said with an intense look. He looked into his glass and seemed to be captivated by the sun it caught off the corners of the glass. He was getting drunk something Jason told me rarely happened.
"It's unheard of yes, but not impossible" Cain continued.
"So we have some what nearly 80 year old hybrid coming through our territory and killing our people and making them go crazy?"
"In short, yes and no one else knows so you two keep your mouths shut" He said with a stern look.
"But Dad how do we know this hybrid is even still alive? I mean did Grandfather find the baby in the nursery?"
"We believe there must have been one other individual that knew about the relationship, someone who was caring for the baby when they were killed, we know it was still alive because by the time my Father had come back with members of his pack to investigate the nursery had been cleaned out of all its supplies, all that was left was the cot"
"But Alpha Cain, we know what it is shouldn't we be informing your pack of what they should be preparing for?"
"There is no preparation for this Sarah! This has not happened in nearly 400 years! If we tell the pack you will cause a scare. We need to keep this under wraps" I understood Cains logic, to tell people we are suppose to try and fight something which we know not how to fight would create panic but we had to do something!
"What can we do then?" Jason asked hopefully.
Cain looked around the room with despair clear in his eyes "That's a good question son, one I am unsure of how to answer" and with that Cain rose from his chair and made his way back to the cabinet to pour himself another drink.
Jason and I took that as our cue to leave, we tried to recollect our thoughts when we got back to Jason's room but we were both overwhelmed.
"I've never seen my father like that before" Jason said as he stared off into the distance.
"He looked so dejected" Our eyes met and in that moment Jason had never looked more like his father. They both had the same hopeless look in their eyes, not knowing what their next move was possibly against the worst enemy they had ever come across scared them in a way they had never been scared before.
"Jason this isn't the end, we can fight this thing we just need to find out more about it" I said hoping to stir some confidence in him.
"How? How can fight something like this?" I thought hard about that question, a possible answer popped into my head although it was a crazy answer it was all I had.
"We need to talk to someone who knows about this kind of stuff" The name of whom I was thinking of caught in my mouth, a little nervous to say it.
"Sarah, didn't you just hear what my dad said? There hasn't been a report of a hybrid in like 400 years, how are you going to talk to someone who was around not to mention survived seeing a hybrid?!"
"I need to talk to my mum" I said, paused waiting for his reaction.
"Your mum? You mean your mum the goddess??" He said in a cynical tone. I raised an eyebrow giving him the sign to put a little more faith in what I was saying.
"Sorry" He said in a release of air.
"Think about it though; she was the one who tried to warn us about hybrid in the first place, she must know something!"
"But how are we suppose to get in contact with her? The only times you've been able to communicate with her is when your in limbo and you only ever get there when you are close to death" Jason had a point and I didn't exactly feel like putting myself in that kind of life threatening situation any time soon.
"Isn't there some sort of ancient text that your pack has that might tell us on how to communicate with the gods?"
"Maybe, I don't know to be honest. I've never really had to look up this kind of stuff before but I've got a friend in another pack that might have a better clue on where to find that kind of information, just gotta work out on how to ask them without raising any suspicious"
"Well that's a start, at least now we have something proactive to do" He nodded with a lot more confidence than he had just a few moments ago.
I grabbed Jason's arm wanting to know the time off his watch and noticed I was late for tonight's family dinner.
"Shoot! Im gonna be so late!"
"Late for what?" Jason asked confused.
"I've got this family dinner thing tonight, Carols idea in trying to get the boys together in one room without them fighting"
"I'll drives you home and then ill get started on the research"
