Chapter Four
I had just finished the last stroke of paint on my canvas when the final bell chimed signalling school had finished for the day, art had flown by so fast, I was sad to put my canvas away in the storage room. Jason had PE when I had art so I waited patiently by the art building, knowing it took him a while coming all the way from the school oval. I started searching through my bag for my earphones hoping that music would help the time past that little bit faster, I had just found them when I heard my name being called out in the distance. I looked to my left to see Rob jogging over.
“Hey Sarah” As Rob came closer I could see that majority of his face was covered in sweat and dirt.
“Hey Rob, looks like you had fun in P.E today” I said whilst examining his clothes, not one inch of his clothes was clean.
“Sport is never fun unless you’re getting right dirty” He said whilst puffing out his chest, showing all his grass stains and dried mud clothes. “What are you doing here standing all by yourself?”
“Oh, I’m waiting for Jason” It was a little embarrassing waiting for Jason here at the art block, sort of like a child needing to picked up by their parent.
“He’s in the changing rooms, wouldn’t it better to wait over there? You know near the car park?” Yes it would, but the fact that it was about a 7 minute walk over to the changing rooms and John was in wood work shop which is on the other side of the school and both Jason and Lucas are in P.E, Jason doesn’t want me to walk that 7 minute walk all by myself.
“Ah well, Jason thinks it’s better to wait over here so I don’t have to walk over there by myself”
“But that means you have to wait here by yourself? That doesn’t make any sense” It does when you know that the art teacher is in her office watching me until Jason comes by, but I couldn’t exactly say that to Rob. “You know I’m surprised that Jason isn’t in this class as well, he was able to get most of his other ones changed so he was with you”
“Well when Coach Danielle’s found out what he was doing and rushed over to the office to stop him from changing his PE class. She said that if he changed that class so he was no longer in PE he would regret it” We both laughed. She didn’t mean it as a threat the coach loved Jason and she gave him extra training in PE for his soccer, he was her prize student.
“Yeah that sounds like the coach” Rob agreed.
“So what are you doing all the over here?”
“Oh I needed to drop some papers off to Mr Clink from the Coach Danielle’s, that’s when I saw you”
“Well I better not hold you up any longer” I wasn’t trying to be rude but I always found it difficult to talk about Jason to my friends, scarred that I might slip up and say too much. Rob just smiled, waved good bye and jogged onto Mr Clink’s office. Shortly after Jason came past and we began walking towards the front of the school.
“Hey Jason I was thinking, wouldn’t it be a lot easier if I just walked over to you at the changing rooms? I mean this way you don’t have to walk out of your way and we can just leave straight from the changing rooms. Me waiting at the art block seems like a roundabout way of doing things is all.”
We had stopped walking altogether now and I could see that Jason didn’t like my idea. “It’s just that I don’t want something to happen to you” This seemed to be his answer to everything lately. I sighed knowing it was hard to argue with Jason when it came to my safety, the last few months for us had been hell and he had every right to be a little worried but a 7 minute walk in the school grounds was plain paranoia.
