Chapter 20
A low growl echoed throughout the Chinese restaurant, a dark silhouette emerged from the window glass cracking under its feet. Long hair blew in front of its face, covering its identity. Andy shivered closer to me pressing his bloody arm against my shoulder and without a second thought I stood in front of him protecting his battered body with John at my side.
The creature growled loudly, causing the employees to scream, grabbing the creature's attention, it started walking towards the petrified employees, when I threw a gust of wind in its direction keeping its attention on me. I felt Andy's grip on the back of my shirt tighten as he had just watched me perform my supernatural powers, this was going to be hard to explain if we all came out of this in one piece. A rumbling growl resinated from the creatures chest as it crouched down and I knew this was it.
The attack happened in slow motion, I watched as the creature flew through the air towards us and instinctively I knew what I had to use. The fire felt warm as it grew in my palm, I shot the fireball towards the creature a high pitched scream pierced the air, my aim was poor but I had managed to hit the creature on the shoulder throwing it off balance and not on us.
"You bitch!" It was a girl's voice, it was gravely but it was familiar.
She stood tall and finally her hair moved away from her face.
"Jennifer?" She grinned a toothy grin showing off her jagged teeth and menacing yellow eyes.
"Ding ding ding" She said as she circled us. By this point the workers had escaped through the back exit and that seemed to disappoint Jennifer.
"Awh no fun, I've been craving Chinese" She said as she licked her lips. Suddenly the floor beneath us rumbled a slate of rock came between Andy, John and I, we were all thrown at opposite ends of the restaurant with velocity. I was thrown hard against the wall of the restaurant, surprised that I didn't go all the way through it. I fell with heavy thud to the ground and immediately felt the slate of rock that had thrown me across the room fall on my arm, crushing the bones in my arm and making it impossible to escape.
Jennifer cackled as she zoned in on Andy and with my free arm I threw another fireball her way this time missing her entirely and narrowly missing a semiconscious John. Jennifer growled and I knew that I finally had her full attention.
"You know I'm not meant to be near you" She took a few steps forward. "I'm not meant to talk to you" another step. "Not meant to touch you" She took her last step towards me, she crouched down so our faces were only inches apart. "The boss will be mad that I didn't follow the strict rules, but how could I be so close to you when your blood is so famously deliciously"
"Those have never been my rules but I will have to thank Jason for keeping something so disgusting away from me" I said as I spat in her face. She wiped her cheek and smirked and I knew if there was ever a time to shift, it was to be now.
"Oh honey, who ever said that I was talking about Jason?" I watched as she flipped her head back making sure not a single drop of my blood was to stain her satin black hair, her mouth unhinged very similar to how a snake does as they are about to devour their prey, her mouth came down on my neck and just as quick as her teeth went in they were ripped right out again as her entire body was torn from mine.
"Get off my sister you bitch!" John said as he threw her out the broken window, closely following her a fireball from Johns palm, setting her on fire.
"Sarah! Are you ok?" He asked as he inspected my neck.
"She barely got me, but my arm, John I can't feel my arm" He gaze quickly shifted to the boulder, without hesitation or a second pair of hands john lifted the heavy slate of rock from my arm, it was defiantly broken and the swelling and bruising had already began but I couldn't waste another second thought on my arm. John helped me stand and we made our way over to Andy who was barely conscious and barely breathing as his body laid strewn across the floor.
I knelt down beside him and with my good hand I put two fingers upon his neck to check his pulse. "John, call for an ambulance!" I said as I felt near to nothing under his skin.
"Sarah?" Andy said with a gruffness to his voice. "Yeah Andy I'm right here, you're going to be ok. I promise" I said as I moved my hand to his face cradling it in my palm.
"I didn't take for you to be a liar Sarah, I mean just look at me" He whispered. My eyes started to burn as I noticed the blood I was kneeling in, the shards of glass that jutted out of his body, the gash that ran from his shoulder across his chest and the bone that protruded out of his right arm. Tears cascaded down my face and fell upon his shirt. "Oh come on Sarah, this is a good shirt" He said as he laughed and coughed up blood.
"I'm so sorry Andy, you were never meant to get involved in this"
"You put up one hell of a fight though, whatever you are, you are amazing at it. Sucks that I'm not going to be able to stick around to see more of those kickass skills"
"You will Andy, you just have to hold on a little longer. Don't leave me ok? You're not a loud to leave me"
"At least it will be quite up there ya know? No more yelling" He gave me his signature goofy smile as he looked up at the ceiling, his chest stopped moving, his eye's lost their life as Andy lost his.
