Ah, yes. The time where teens leave the nest and dorm with other strangers for about 4 years. I, myself, am pretty excited. I'm a sophomore in college, and I actually went to community for freshman year.

Moving in was kinda long and tiring. Standing hours in a long line to use the elevator, with only a couple suitcases.

Kayla, my half-sister was helping me move in while Mom and Dad walked around campus. She mostly just told me how I should organized and gagged whenever I pulled out my underwear from the suitcase and placed it in my drawer. She also told me what clothing to pair with what. I'm not good with fashion...

After she left to go to the bathroom, I jumped on my bed. I brought my bi flag, but I don't even know if my roomie would want me to hang it.

I heard a click from the door, but Kayla didn't have a key. There walked in a short kid with black hair and pale skin.

"Hi," he said.

"Hey," I replied. "I'm Will."

"Nico," he gave me a blank smile. "Guess I'm in the back."

"Oh, yeah," I replied.

He shuffled over to the back of the room. He didn't have any family with him. He started putting-or... throwing things into his drawers. It didn't take him long to put his stuff into the drawers and wardrobe. He put his slightly beat up computer on the table and a tissue box onto the desk.

"Is it okay if I hang this?" He pulled out a gay flag from his backpack. I guess he was hinting that he was gay.

"Oh! Yeah, no, totally, I was gonna ask if I could hang my bi flag, too," I unfolded mine. His eyes widened, half shocked and half impressed.

"So you're bi?" He asked as we were both putting command strips (I gave him some since he forgot).

"Yeah, you're gay?" I asked. He hummed in reply.

"When did you realize?" He ask.

"Hm, not sure... kinda just... knew-?" I was interrupted with Kayla knocking on the door. "Kayla! Stop banging on the door!"

I opened it to see Kayla, hands on her hips. "What took you so long?" I asked.

"Couldn't find it, then they were closed, so I had to go to the ones outside the building, which were only one stall, THEN I got lost, and then- who are you?"

"Roommate," Nico and I said in unison.

"Huh," she side-eyes him. "I like your jacket."

"Thanks," he looked down at his jacket as if he didn't know what it was either. He seemed pleased with the compliment though.

Another knock came and Kayla opened it. "Hi~!" Dad and Mom walked in.

"Hello," Nico nodded towards them. "I'm Nico. Will's roommate."

"Nice to meet ya!" Mom smiled. "Oh, looks like you got everything situated."

"Thanks to Kayla," I said. She tilted her head in a "see, I'm awesome" way.

"So are you a freshman or sophomore like Will?" Mom asked.

"Freshman," he said.

"Where are your parents?" Dad asked.

"Working and dead," he shrugged.

"Aw," mom pulled him into a hug. He was shocked, but took it anyway. "I'm sorry..."

"It's okay, it was a long time ago," he said.

"Uhhh, I forgot a trash can," I said.

"Way to ruin the moment," Kayla frowned.

"Sorry-" I said.

"It's cool," Nico cut me off. "I need to get some things from the store anyway, I can pick it up if you want."

"I'll come," I said. "I wanna know where the store is. You guys can look around or something."

"Kicking us out?" Dad raised an eyebrow. I guess he saw our flags.

"Nothin wrong with exploring," I said. Dad shrugged.

"I think we should go, you're mom and I got to go to work. I gotta meeting with your grandpa and aunts and uncles. Some of your cousins too," Dad said, looking at his watch.

"Have fun," I said. "Tell them I said hi."

"Will do!" Mom waved as Kayla gave me a smile and they left.

"Ugh, they finally left," i sagged back onto my bed.

"What does your dad do?" Nico asked.

"Some solar thing," I shrugged.

"What's your major?" He asked.

"Pre-med. I wanna be a doctor," I shrugged. "You?"

"Mortuary science," he said.

My eyes widened. "Sick, dude."

"It's a meh, my dad wants me to take over and everything. Yada yada," he waved it off. "Let's go to the store. We have a meeting in like... 2 hours."

I learned a lot about Nico. His hesitations when it comes to snacks, his little frown when something doesn't go his way, his bland jokes (they're bad, but I still laugh). It's crazy how something as simple as a shopping trip can bring out someone's true colors.

The meeting, however, he was silent. Completely. During icebreakers he just said his name and major. He got some weird looks, but he didn't seem to care.

I said my name, my age, my major, and my sexual orientation. I think people were impressed I said it proudly, but I don't know what they were thinking. I saw some weird looks from some of the boys, but they weren't my type so why bother with them?

It was even more awkward when people found out we were rooming together. I heard people gossiping about how such a bright, extroverted person (me) was dorming with the emo, gloomy, introverted one. I mean, we didn't really have a choice in who we formed with, but I think I got lucky.

The place was a new dorm. Modern and stylish, able to connect with the people who will live here for the next year and those to come.

Nevertheless, I feel like I bonded mostly with Nico than the other people who came up to me... or us. It was weird, to be completely honest. At times when people would talk to us, Nico would shoot me a funny face and look back at them.

It was nice either way. It felt like I was finally free- or... I have been in a long time. I knew at that exact moment that was going to have a good year. ____________________________________
