Betty

"Bambina! Let's go get ice cream." Stefania said as she walked into the living room.
"Where's Kaya?" I sat up and laid Rory in her bassinet.
"She's outside talking to your Mom. Come on, I wanna get ice cream." She nudged me with her elbow.
"Okay, okay. Is Rory coming with us?" I asked as I slipped on my shoes.
"No, she'll be fine here with your Mom. Come on bambina."

Danielle

"So. Are you gonna go to your Mom's funeral?" I asked as I finished helping Kaya put the finishing touches on her master plan.
"I don't know. Should I?" She sighed.

"That's up to you. Nobody can make that decision for you. Not Barrett, not me, not Betty. But whatever you decide, we'll support you." I put my arm around her shoulders.
"Thank you. Do you think she'll like it?"
"Kaya, I think she'll love it. They should be getting home soon. Go do what you gotta do."

Betty

"I think that's the first time we've hung out together just us in forever." I laughed as we walked inside.
"Sì. We need to do this more often." Stefania leaned over and kissed the top of my head.

"Hey kid! Can you run out back and grab something out of the garage please?" Danielle shouted from the kitchen.
"Yes Mom." I sighed and walked out back.

"What- What is this?" I stopped and took in the sight in front of me.

"Your surprise

"Your surprise." Kaya stepped out of the tent and walked over, handing me a bunch of roses.
"Oh bella. This is so amazing. Grazie." I wrapped my arms around her shoulders, and pressed my lips against hers.
"Come here. I have the projector set up in there." She took my hand and led me inside, closing the opening behind us.
"This is amazing bambina. Grazie, grazie, Grazie." I peppered her face as she laughed.
"Babe, Betty. I need to talk to you about something important." She laid back on the pillows and patted next to her.
"What's up?" I laid down and cuddled into her.

"These past months that I've known you, have been the best months of my life. You're so important to me. When you finally asked me out on a date, I felt like I was on cloud nine. I felt the luckiest girl on earth. I want all the laughs, all the tears, all the good and all the bad. I want it all with you. So, Betty Spampinato-Savre, sarai la mia fidanzatta?" (Will you be my girlfriend?)

"Sì! Sì! Mille per cento sì!" I exclaimed as I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her in for a kiss.
"I don't know what you said, but I think you said yes." Kaya laughed.
"I can't believe you learned how to say it in Italian for me." I kissed her cheek gently.
"Anything for you, amore mio."
"You're so perfect." I straddled her lap, sliding my hands up her shirt.
"And you, are a tease." Kaya closed her eyes and smiled.

"You wouldn't know what to do without me."
"You're so right."

The next morning

I woke up to an empty tent. I stretched, and crawled out.
"Shit I was hoping you'd still be asleep." Kaya said as she walked out of the house.
"What the hell are you doing?" I asked with a laugh.

Kaya had Rory strapped to her chest in one of those baby carriers, with a plate of food in each hand.
"Your Moms had to go to work for a bit, and I didn't wanna wake you up. So I decided to watch little bit." She walked over to me and handed me the plates, carefully getting back in the tent with Kaya.
"You, Kaya Doss, are the best fidanzata ever." I leaned over and gave her a kiss.
"I could get used to hearing that. You know, you should speak Italian more." She said as she bit into her toast.
"Just wait until I get mad. Then the Italian will come out." I teased.
"I'd love to see that." Kaya winked.

We ate the rest of our food in a comfortable silence.
"So... can I ask you something?" I asked.
"Anything babe." She leaned back on one hand and patted Rory's back with the other.
"Are you sure you don't wanna go to your Mom's funeral?"

Kaya thought for a minuet, then sighed.
"Yeah. I wanna go."
"Really?"

"Yeah. I mean, you were right. She might be a piece of shit, but she's the reason I'm on this earth. Plus, I think Barrett might need me there."
"I'm glad you decided to go bambina." I leaned over and kissed her forehead.
"Will you go with me?" She asked. She whispered so quietly that I almost didn't hear her.
"Of course. Anything for you."

"Kaya? We're home!" Danielle shouted from the back deck.
"In the tent!" I yelled to her.

She came and crawled into the tent with us.
"Wow. This is cozy. I could live out here."

"Don't even think about it bambina! I'm not sleeping in a tent!" We laughed as we heard Stefania shout.
"Mom, Kaya asked me to be her girlfriend last night." I smiled as I cuddled up to my girlfriend and my little sister.
"Really Betty. Did you think I set all this up by myself?" Kaya asked.

"You knew?"
"I did too bambina!" Stefania said happily as she crawled into the tent.
"So that's how you learned Italian. I figured you just google translated it."
