Something to note about August (Liang) is that, unlike Zhejiang who knew she was a ship from the get-go, at the start of the story August still believes she's a normal human girl albeit one with a much different appearance. This is only further exemplified by the fact that her rigging hasn't activated as yet and as a result, she can't float on the water's surface as other ship girls can. That being said, she's still a KANSEN at the end of the day and as a result, would still possess the same level of strength and armour that her ship would. This means that even if she were hit by the bullets during the initial encounter seen in the Prologue, she wouldn't have been damaged.
Another thing to note is that this August is different from the canon one for hopefully obvious reasons. Apart from the fact that she's Liang, she also underwent similar changes to those we see Zhejiang experience in her own story. This means that, at least when compared to the other KANSEN, she is faster and tougher (armour wise) whilst also possessing greater firepower than her counterparts. Indeed, despite the sheer size of her actual carrier she's still faster than most if not all current destroyers within her world (at top speed) but it should be noted that this only applies to straight-line speed as smaller ships could still easily outmanoeuvre her due to how much it would take to turn such a massive ship while at top speed. (Note that this is not referring to her KANSEN form but rather her actual ship itself.)
Furthermore, it is unlikely that she'd ever travel at top speed (even as a KANSEN) since her escorting fleet wouldn't be able to keep up with her. This could technically be circumvented by simply using her ship and having everyone remain on its flight deck as it travels but this is only usable in certain situations as it creates a much bigger target while limiting her allies to fighting from her deck if they are ambushed and can't dismount in time.
Lastly, the dragon which you see can act independently of August. This means that whilst the riggings of other girls within Azur Lane require their girls to choose to deploy before deploying, for example, her rigging and by extension the dragon does not require a command from her to arm and even open fire on nearby targets.
Oh, and I suppose it is worth pointing out to those that may miss it and wonder how she's like that in future chapters, yes...those are battleship sized guns. If you've read my other book Azur Lane: Euphoria and remember Grimm (aka Reaper) then August's guns are literally 1 inch smaller than her main guns.
