"You didn't have to bring cakes and flowers over." Vincent smiled after bawling out his eyes to me.
I just shrug. How long has it been since I properly sat down with him? The last time I did, I ended up being rude and running out the house without explaining anything.
"These cakes are really good. you should try some, Ally." He says excitedly still eating, "Say ah!"
"Vincent, you don't need to feed me. I bought it for you and your mother to enjoy." I explain refusing to be fed by Vincent.
"Nonsense, you're here with us Ally, so you should also be allowed to eat some too." His mother chirps in, "Go on, take a slice."
"No, thank you. I'm quite alright, I had something to eat before coming here."
"Oh okay, what did you eat and where?"
"I had a sandwich at a café in the city. I was meeting someone."
"Who?"
"No one."
"Ally, you just said you met up with someone, who is this person? Was it your boyfriend?"
"No, he is not my boyfriend. Have you been spending too much time with the twins?" I joke around trying to lighten up the mood.
Maybe I'm trying too hard to be a happy. I don't know, but right now the pit in my chest hasn't gone and I haven't been able to forget about it.
"No, I haven't. I haven't even gone to your house since you left five days ago."
"It's been five days?!" I ask sounding a little surprised.
"Yes, Ally, now don't change the subject. Who was that man you were with, in the city at the café?"
"Darius." I say under my breath after pausing to process the fact that I have been away for five days.
The room fell silent. Vincent was struggling to comprehend what he had just heard and as for Vixin, well, she had no idea who he was or what we were talking about.
"Five days. I thought I was gone longer than that. I guess I came back in time." I say quietly sounding a little disappointed.
"Why did you meet with him?" Vincent asks worriedly.
"He's the only person who know where my mother is."
"You found her. That's good, Ally, now you can go see her."
I let out a stifled laugh, "She's dead, Vincent and I'm not upset in the slightest. I finally got rid of her."
He sets his plate on the table and crawls over to embrace me, "I'm so sorry Ally."
"Why though? Why are you sorry? I wouldn't be. She left me, she left me in this world full of wild people and animals who don't care whether we deserve the hate we get because of the stupid story. They didn't even think twice to ask for the truth or at least an explanation. They just pointed fingers and blamed us."
"Except they did, Ally." Vincent's voice whispers in my head gently, "they asked us what we did wrong, and we wanted the whole world gone. I should've told you earlier, but it's okay for you to have friends. You don't have to be alone anymore, you have me. I have things I want to tell you, but I don't want to say them out loud because of my mum, so can I please listen to me?"
I nod my head.
"There isn't any easy way for me to say it, but I figured out who you are. Ally, why didn't you tell me you were the cursed fox?"
My eyes widen at his words. How did he know?
"You didn't have to hide all this time on your own. I also have a confession to make. I feel like I've known you for a while now and I just wanted to say..."
"No." I interrupt his sentence before he can finish it, "you weren't supposed to know. You were never supposed to find out. That's not how it's supposed to go. Please, Vincent, please forget about it."
"I'll be heading off now kiddies. Make sure to stay safe okay." Vixin says leaving the house.
The sound of the door clicking into it lock is the last sound I hear before Vincent starts talking again.
"I love you Ally."
