VINCENT:

It's been four days since Ally hasn't come around. Two days, I hated my life, the other two were lonely. Marcus decided to screw me multiple times and, in those times, he wouldn't let up. He was ruthless. I want it gone from my memories. I'm going to end up seeing him at school again. I hope she's there. I really do hope so. If he, does it again, I don't know what will happen to me. I'm scared of not knowing. Scared of having my body violated just because I'm a fox.

"I'll be okay. I'm strong. I can do this. If Ally is out there somewhere trying to reconnect with her mother and has the strength to rescue me and the other animals from that warehouse, then I think I can too. I can be strong enough to fight back against Marcus. I will not let him boss me around. I can do this." I whisper to myself quietly.

My mum has already left for work, her other job. I love her, but she works too hard sometimes. It won't be for long. I'm nearly twenty-one. I only have four years to go. When I'm twenty-one I can take my mother and leave this place, for good. I sit up in bed and face the window as the sun falls through the cracks in the blinds. I pray.

"Dear Goddess of the Fox, please protect me from evil-doings that may happen today, and if it isn't too much to ask can you please bring Ally back to me. I miss her and I want to tell her something. Please, Goddess of the Fox, I beg you, please bring Ally back to me. Please protect her and do not let her die. Goddess of the Fox, I thank you for heeding my pray. May the story live on."

I get myself ready and leave for school. I know that the Gods are busy, but I really do hope they heard my message. Ever since I was taken from right in front of my house, I've always been a little scared to leave home alone. Somehow, I still manage to get out of the house and to school on time. I change my shoes and climb the stairs to my classroom. As I settle down into my chair, Marcus sits on top of my desk and talks to his friends. Marcus is the pig who Alluro threatened when she found me in the bathrooms.

"Hey, did you hear? The fox that's hardly here was the one to rescue the prince. What a disaster." He says disgustedly.

"A fox? From our class? Seriously? It can't be her, she's nowhere near Prince Clement's league." One of my classmates says surprised.

"I know right. She doesn't even know how to dress for school, let alone a ball. I think it's a lie. I think it was someone else. Not her. The possibility of it being her is impossible, and if it were then who would want a fox at their coming-of-age ball anyways. You know foxes bring bad luck."

"True, but then again Prince Clement did say that his words overrule the laws. But he's not even a real prince. It's only a title. Rumour has it, he was adopted into the royal family from a young age and raised as a royal. I heard it from one of my auntie's sister's daughter's niece who works in the royal palace."

"Well, then I guess, that fox will die the night she gets there. I bet you my car on that." He says overconfidently.

Well, Marcus. One, her name is Alluro, two, what would you know about her? I would bet you my entire life, that she will not die the night she gets there, because I know her better than you ever will.

"Hey, Marcus. Guess what?" I speak as I stand up making sure I'm loud enough to be heard over the chatter.

"Oh look, the wee fox has found his dick in his mouth. What are you going to say this time? Fuck me, Marcus. Please fuck me, someone give me a dick and I'll make you feel good, I promise." He taunts.

The whole classroom has gone silent. The pressure from the silence alone is enough to scare anyone away. The teacher isn't around yet, it feels like there is someone standing outside just out of view of everyone inside listening. I would be bold and say it's Ally, but I'm not sure who it is.

"No, actually. Her name is Alluro." I say confidently.

"Who?"

"Alluro. Alluro of the Fox class, and she knows more than you give her credit for."

"How would you know fox? Did you fuck her too?"

"Honestly, how foul can your mouth get, Marcus?"

"I know her better than anyone, not just because we foxes socialise with our own kind but because she is my family. I don't care if you hate her to the point where you can't remember her name but remember this, she is closer to the prince's league than you are."

"Excuse me? Just who do you –"

"She knows more about balls than you do."

"Since when did you get all cocky and think that –"

"And I bet...my entire life, all my freedom, my attendance marks and my friendship with her, that she will not die the night she attends the coming-of-age ball for the two princes."

"A bet is a bet. Once you have said it, you cannot back down now, fox."

"I know what I said."

"Good, then if it is her, you keep your life and everything, but if it isn't you belong to me."

"It was part of the bet we made. Now get off my table, class is about to start, and I have no intention of accidently stabbing you while I try to write on my books. Thank you."

There were a few small snickers around the room as Marcus went bright red and walked to his seat. The strange presence outside the classroom disappeared. I couldn't feel it.

Maybe it was my imagination. Maybe I thought that if I mustered up the courage to talk back to Marcus like I did, then she would be here. I don't know. When will school end?
