Aurora
After arguing back and fourth with Odyssey about my trip with Harry, Layla and I sat in the back seat of Odyssey's car, on our way to the airport once again where we would be meeting Harry. Odyssey turned back to look at us once stopped at a red light.
"Are you sure about this Aurora?"
"I'm sure my love. We will be fine and back in three days, don't worry too much please. I think this is something I have to do, not only for me but for Layla as well. This way she will be able to get used to having Harry around which will make telling her about him when the time comes that much easier."
Odyssey wasn't convinced of my argument but she let it be either way.
"Where are you guys going anyway?"
"I'm not sure, he wouldn't say."
Once we arrived at the airport Layla and I said our goodbyes to Odyssey before she drove off and we met with Harry inside. He stood by the entrance awaiting for our arrival so that we could board the plane together.
"Hey Alaska!" He greeted her with a big smile. Layla smiled just as big as she greeted him back. Layla was excited to be going on a plane. It was her first time. They made small talk as we went about or walk to find the gate we were to board our flight at.
I cut their conversation short, "Harry, where are we going?" He looked up at me and smiled slightly before replying, "Boston." Hearing him say that word almost made my heart burst out of my chest. I hadn't been back home since the day that was supposed to be our wedding. That was almost seven years ago now. Why was he taking us to Boston? Why couldn't he tell me sooner that way I could have objected. I wasn't sure if I was ready to go back to this place even if it was only for a short period of time. Before I had the chance to object and change my mind about going the flight attendant had mentioned over the intercom that we were to be taking off now.
Harry buckled Layla in her seat as the plane began to move. She turned to me with teary eyes. "Mommy I'm scared." She whispered. I took her hand in mine, holding it securely. As I went to comfort her, Harry beat me to it.
"Don't be scared Alaska. It's just like riding a roller coaster, but less scarier. You like riding roller coasters don't you?" She nodded slightly with a smile. "Then you have nothing to worry about munchkin. I'll be here the whole time holding your hand and so will mommy."
I sat back in my seat, contemplating over all the things that could go wrong in Boston and within no time we were landing at Boston International Airport. The nerves were started to kick in when we got into the cab that brought us to our destination. Wherever that was. We drove by every memorable place as we made our way into Cambridge. We passed by Harvard University and not long after my childhood home. My heart dropped to my stomach as all the memories started to kick in. The familiar car of my fathers sat in the drive way, the same spot it always sat for years when it wasn't being occupied. I hadn't seen or talked to my parents ever since I left. No doubt I did miss them, I just couldn't bring myself to give them a call after everything. And I'm almost certain they wanted nothing to do with me anymore seeing as they never once bothered to call either. I closed my eyes, trying to hold back my tears.
Soon enough the van stopped by a familiar house. It was Harry's parents house. I've only ever been here twice, but even so, I still remembered what it looked liked. Harry helped Layla out of the car before holding his hand out for me to take. I gladly did so. I took Layla's hand as Harry retrieved the two duffle bags from the trunk. I waited for him before going up to the door of the house. I was still nervous to say the least. I haven't seen his mother in seven years as well. Although she did try to reach out many times after I left, I ignored her every time. What will she think of me? What will she think of Layla? What will she think seeing me with her son again?
This was a bad idea and I was upset at Harry for not telling me sooner that our trip was to Boston. I was a nervous reck and the regret was flooding in all at the same time. I can't possibly do this. Face his parents.
"Calm down Aurora. You'll be fine I promise. My mother knows we're coming and she is very excited to see you and to meet her granddaughter as well." Harry's words were meant to make me feel better but they didn't.
We now stood in front of the door. He rang the doorbell, awaiting a response. Soon enough the floor swung open and stood opposite of us was his mother. She looked much older then when I last saw her. Her eyes beamed with excitement as she saw her son, immediately pulling him into a tight hug. After their greeting her eyes landed Layla then on me.
"Aurora! Wow, it's so nice to finally see you again sweetheart. You look beautiful as always." She engulfed me in a hug as well. I hugged her back just as tightly as my nerves calmed down.
"It's nice to see you too."
"And is this little cutie pie my granddaughter?" She asked her attention now on Layla.
"Hi! My name is Layla Alaska Styles." She beamed. Anne laughed slightly, "Oh you are the most adorable thing." She took Layla into her arms, lifting her up on her waist. "Do you like pie?" She asked Layla who nodded immediately with a wide grin.
"Good because I made a lot. Come on in you two and get settled. We have a lot of catching up to do."
