"Are you guys even dating?" I heard Ren 'whisper'. She's the loudest whisperer known to man.
"I don't know. I think it's more of a friends with benefits thing." Sam said, disappointment evident in her voice.
"Let's all go hang. Alex can tell by body language." Ren suggested.
She's not lying.
"Okay. Sure." She gave in.
I grabbed my keys and passed the girls on the way to the car. I motioned them to follow after me.
"How did you-" Sam started.
"Ren isn't quiet."
"Valid." She said, buckling herself in.
"So where does he live?" I asked.
----
The group played videogames furiously. Sam sat in Vic's lap with his arm thrown around her lazily. Ren and Jaime were laying down at odd angles. The two looked like the beginning of a pile of bodies. Adia had left with Andy long ago.
A guy named Tony started talking to me randomly. Apparently there wasn't enough controllers on an Xbox for all of them.
He seemed nice enough. He was the guitarist for Pierce The Veil. Jaime plays bass, Vic does vocals, and his brother is the drummer. His brother, Mike, isn't here at the moment. They have their own little thoughts of his whereabouts. It's quite interesting. Their group reminds me very much of mine.
"Does Sam know?" Tony asked me.
"Sam know what?" I had been lost in what ever game they're playing.
"That Vic likes her." He reminded me why we came here. I almost forgot.
"She thinks they're just fuck buddies."
"No! Dude, no. He's like head over heels for her. I haven't seen him this happy in ages." He said.
"Oh, well in that case, no." I stated the obvious.
Tony and I continued talking about some topic I couldn't care less about. Yet, somehow, it was very intriguing. He's a decent guy. I think I'll claim this human as my new best friend.
"What?" He said with a laugh.
"Hmm?" I asked.
"You just-" He was cut off and erupted into laughter. "You said that out loud." He was in tears by now.
My ringtone cut through the noise, signalling an incoming call. Looking, I noticed it was Jay.
A grin played on my face. I couldn't help it. No one has ever made me feel the way he has. And on top of that, none of this seemed possible until about three weeks ago.
"Hey." I answered.
"Hey babe." The way he said it sent me into a mess of feelings. He's so damn close to perfect. "I hope you're dressed, we're going out somewhere tonight."
"Where to?" I asked.
"You'll see." I could practically hear the smirk.
"Secrets don't make friends."
"But you love it."
"I do." I said shamelessly. Did I just say that? Oops.
"I'll see you tonight." He said before hanging up.
I left the car for the girls and walked home. Time to think is never a bad thing.
The whole ordeal with Jay seems like a dream. I expect to wake up any second in my bed back at home. Part of me wishes I could.
Will I regret all of this later? What if this is just a phase? I don't want to lose a friend over some relationship.
In no time I reached the house. Vic didn't live too awfully far away.
Obeying Jay's orders, I showered and got dressed. I didn't dress too fancy. Just a band shirt, some skinny jeans, and converse. My normal attire. He never seemed to have a problem with the way I dress. He shouldn't now.
By the time night fell, Ren, Adia, nor Sam had came home. If I hadn't gotten a text earlier, I would've believed Jay left me. But the thought didn't linger long, because a loud honk sounded from outside.
I jogged down the steps and into his car. Curiosity ate at me. I hate suspense.
"Where are we going?" I asked before he could say anything.
He let out a small chuckle. "Patience, grasshopper." He said in a mocking tone.
I huffed and sat back, going along for the ride.
----
"Boom bitch!" I shouted, throwing my hands up in victory.
This will be the first time out of three I had won. He dared challenge me at corn holes. Back at home I was an all time winner. But unbelievably, he had beaten me twice.
"Let's go ride that." He said, pointing up at the tall colorful wheel.
I didn't mind heights. But Sam, god forbid get her a foot off the ground.
Jay held my hand and pulled me in the small cart looking thing. The instructor told us the rules in a bored voice. I don't blame him. He had probably rehearsed the paragraph hundreds of times just tonight.
"It's really pretty up there." Jay said when the machine jerked into motion.
"I don't ride these a lot." I admitted.
When we reached the top, my mouth hung open in shock. He wasn't wrong. The sky was a beautiful shade of purple and the clouds whipped like cotton.
"It's beautiful." I mumbled.
"Kind of like you." Jay said, placing his hand over mine.
I tore my eyes away from the beautiful scene above me, and gazed into his eyes.
"You're so cheesy, you know that."
"I know." He said laughing.
We shared a moments silence, before I felt a tug on my shirt. I looked towards the force, and was met with a kiss.
We kiss a lot. And every time, the effects he has on me never change. It's almost embarrassing.
He pulled away, but never broke eye contact.
"I think I love you." He said.
