Chapter Five

A full bladder pulled me from sleep. I groaned, and rolled out of bed. My feet hit the cool hardwood floor. It sent a chill up my spine.

Forcing myself, I waddled to the bathroom. God forbid I attempt to walk normally when I'm half asleep.

I took my usual route to the bathroom, and came face to face with a wall. What the hell? I looked around at my surroundings. That's odd.

"Ooh." I said out loud in recognition. I quickly covered my mouth. I forgot everyone was asleep. And apparently forgot that I was at Jay's as well.

When I finished in the bathroom, I headed back to bed. Never do I wake up before ten. And I'm quite sure it's not ten yet. As I turned on the hall towards my room, the scent of pancakes lulled me downstairs.

The faint sound of humming filled my ears. Someone is up way too early. But it's possibly forgiven, only if I get some pancakes.

A tall figure with a mop of black hair was standing at the stove flipping the golden disks of angelic flavor.

"Jay?" I asked, rubbing my eyes. He actually cooks? I'd say he's hubby material. His girlfriend must be extremely lucky.

"Morning sunshine." He said with a large grin.

That simple statement sent my stomach into a frenzy of butterflies. I need to get over what ever crush I've developed. He's nothing more than a friend. And I intend to keep it that way.

"I better get some of those." I said in a joking tone.

He set a plate on the counter behind me, pressing our bodies closely together. My breath caught in my throat.

"I made them just for you." He said, coming back to face me.

My cheeks heated up. I probably look like a twelve year old who just got partnered with their crush. He noticed too, because his hands drifted to my hips.

"You're so shy."

"I- I'm not usually." I cursed myself for stuttering. By now I just look idiotic.

"So that's just how you get around me?" He said, a devilish grin plastered to his face.

"No I just- fuck." I mumbled the last part under my breath. What is he doing to me? Better yet, what am I allowing him to do to me?

He laughed at me. I sighed and rested my head on his shoulder. I've made myself look like a fool. If there ever was a spark of a chance, I just drenched it with a fucking ocean.

His hands cupped my face, forcing me to look into his eyes.

"You're really pretty, you know?" He said simply.

A smile tugged at the edge of my lips, and the warmth returned to my face. Never in my eighteen years have I blushed as much as I have today. To some extent, I'd say it's a good thing. Justin, my ex, was never able to make me this happy.

"I didn't notice." I replied sincerely.

He frowned at the statement. I look down regretting what I said. But he quickly lifted my head up.  He's stubborn sometimes.

"You are." He said, rubbing his thumb across my jawline.

He leaned down a bit, and began closing the gap between us. My eyes fluttered shut and I leant into his movements. His breath tickled my lips.

"I smell pancakes." Ren's groggy voice mumbled.

We sighed in unison. So close, yet so far.

"Fucking cockblocks." Jay mumbled.

A laugh bubbled out. I couldn't help it.

He handed me my plate, being sure to throw a smirk in my direction. I placed one in front of Ren and filled three glasses with orange juice.

We ate in silence the first few minutes. But I couldn't stand hearing people eat. So I started up a conversation.

"Ren, can you go wake up the girls? I don't want them to eat a cold breakfast." I asked politely.

Part of that was the actual truth. But the majority wanted to finish what Jay started earlier. She nodded and trudged up the stairs. When she was out of ear shot, I aimed a question at him.

"What happened to you having a girlfriend?" I asked. The thought was killing me.

"She um, she slept with my bestfriend." He replied calmly. I almost felt bad for asking. But honestly, he deserved better.

"Oh, I'm sorry." I mumbled.

I've found it's better to just shut my mouth. Bad things always come out. The term 'bad' is a loose definition. There are several different forms of bad things that come out of my mouth.

"Nah, it's all good."

Before I had a chance to reply, the three were sitting around the table. I passed plates around and pancakes behind.

The girls sparked up a conversation easily. They were asking Jay random questions about nothing in particular. He answered all of them though.

He'll get tired of us before the last day.

"I dare you to lick the wall." Vic said, nudging Sam.
"Ew! That's gross." She said, grinning like a mad man.

We were all sitting around a table in the mall. Not many people were here. Well, considering it's twelve.

Sam invited Vic. None of us thought he'd actually show up, but he did. He's actually super fun.

"Hey, wanna go walking with me?" Jay said, lowering his voice so the others couldn't hear.

"Sure." I quietly responded. "Guys, Jay's gonna show me where HotTopic is. Meet us there when you get done with your game." I said louder.

Adia gave me a knowing smirk. I'd swear she could read my mind at times.

Jay pulled me away from the group and out of sight. I laughed at his urgency.

"What's the rush? You s-" I started. But a pair of lips on mine paused me mid-sentence.

Any trace of anything about to escape my mouth vanished.

Our lips worked together smoothly, shooting off fireworks. My stomach did a flip and my knees went weak.

"I had to finish what we started. It was killing me." He said when he pulled away, with much hesitation from me.
