He enveloped me in a tight embrace. We were best friends over the phone, never had met before. I expected this to be awkward, honestly. But I feel as if I've known him my whole life.
"This is great timing actually. My car is broke down. And since y'all are here, would you mind taking me home?" He asked, holding me at arms length.
We were planning on going there anyways, and we don't really have a choice. Seeing as that'll be our residence the next few weeks.
"Sure." I said with a smile.
----
The ride was a short one. We laughed the entire way, never introduced to a silent car. The atmosphere was very energetic. In no time, Jay was giving us instructions on where his house is.
After turning around four times, we finally found his drive. We all piled out and into the tall elegant building. It was still cold, but no snow covered the ground.
We all took a seat, and Jay was last to walk in. He put his hands on his hip in a prissy manner. "You girls took all the seats."
Small chuckles bounced around the room. I looked around, confirming his statement. They planned this. Adia had her legs thrown over the couch, Sam and Ren were taking up the other. I sat by myself in a recliner. Those little shits.
"Guess I'll sit on Alex's lap!" He said with a shrug, and threw himself into my lap.
I let out a small scream. He laughed and went dead weight. No matter how hard I tried, he wouldn't budge.
"Oh, Alex!" He sat up and turned to face me. "I want to hear you guys play. Live; not off YouTube."
Sam bolted up and drug Ren behind her towards the car. The girls really enjoy playing. We've talked about the band since ninth grade. Though I doubt any of us had really believed we'd do it.We set up in his garage, almost identically like the set at home. Though we haven't settled on a name. Bring Alexandria The Sleeping Bodies is a name we had came up with in High School. So, that's what we stuck with.
Our personal songs weren't completely put together yet. In front of people we play covers. We've only written two songs and mastered them fully. But they grow old after a while. So we settled on a Bless The Fall song.
Sam strung an off key cord, the rest of us joined.
Adia sung the first few lines, nodding along. "I watched the sun again, it's easy now. I've spent all night long trying to figure out what I've lost and what I've failed, when my feet won't hit the ground. Trying to make it, starting over. And will we ever love again?"
Ren took on drumming in her tenth year of high school. Sam was our bassist and growler. I was the screamer and guitarist. Adia was our lead clean vocalist.
It may be biased, but I think we sound pretty damn good. For a new band anyways.
Sam and I strummed our last cord together, ending the song. Jay whistled and clapped. He was like our one-man audience. I'm just glad he liked it.
"You can leave it there if you want. I don't park in here no way."We set our stuff down, and went in for drinks. Playing takes a toll out on you. Especially if you try.
I downed half my bottle of water before Jay called me over. The girls smirked at me, as if anything was going to happen.
"You guys were great! I loved your guitar part. I didn't think you could play like that." He said, complimenting us.
"Yeah, I put a lot in it. I love this band."
"It's kind of cute." He said, catching me off guard.
"What's cute?" I asked.
"You." He said, causing a blush to form on my cheeks. "When you play, you make this face. It's adorable."
I smiled and thanked him. My stomach did flips. I'm not sure why it does that when he calls me cute. But it has happened quite a bit. The feeling wasn't new.
"Anyways, it's getting close to bed time. I have two spare bedrooms. Y'all can decide who sleeps where." He said, heading back towards the kitchen.
"Night girls!" He called.
They repeated the phrase, and called roommates.
