Chapter 3 - Hide and Seek

It's been a few months since Tesla's birthday and today he decided to spend his day playing with the other kids as his mother wasn't having lessons today and wanted some time to with his father.

And today they were playing Hide and Seek. A game that Tesla introduced to the them. Today Tesla was the Seeker and everyone else was hiding. The time limit was by afternoon.

He had found everyone but one person and it was close to afternoon.

Tesla had found everyone but Sopfina.

"Hey where's Sophfina?" He asks the kids he had found.

They shrug their shoulders. :I don't know" they say.

Then Alin speaks up. "I saw her going into the forest."

"The forest?"

"Yea she said she had discovered a good spot in the forest."

With that information Tesla rushes back to his house. He grabs his bow and arrows. He could hear his parents but it didn't matter right now. He needed to find Sopfina.

He bursts out the door and runs into the into the forest.

He hops from tree tree. Scanning his surroundings.

"Sopfina please be safe..."

Sopfina had chosen the forset to hide today because no matter where she hid in the village Tesla would always find her but the forest was big and vast with plenty of places to hide so here she was hiding in the forest. More specifically it was a tree.

It was just about to turn afternoon and Tesla still hadn't found her yet.

She was beginning to have second thoughts about her grand plan.

What if he doesn't think to look in the forest? What if he forgot about me?

Finally she decides it would be better to just head back to the village and crawls out the tree.

She begins walking back in the direction she came but then she hears a rustling in the bushes and a low growl.

Then out the bushes come a large animal.

"Wolfhounds?! What, why are they here?! Did I accidentally wonder into their territory?" She thought terrified.

The Wolfhound growls lowly. Drool dripping from It's mouth.

"It looks hungry."

The animal continues to approach her.

"S-Stay back! She shouts, Don't come any closer!"

In reply the beast attacks her jaws open ready to tear her apart.

"Barrier!" She says desperately putting a barrier. The barrier manages to stop the attack and the animal is repelled. Unfortunately the weight and force of the attack destroys her barrier and she falls to the ground. The Wolfhound recovers first and is preparing to attack again. Sopfina rolls out of the way as the Wolfhound leaps at her. She gets up and starts running away. The Wolfhound not wanting to let it's prey get away let's out a howl. Then begins to chase after her.

"What was that?" Tesla heard loud howl and decides to head in the that direction it was close too.

Soon he sees a pack of what looks like wolves. They were definitely bigger than the wolves from his world. They had bluish grey fur and tips of their tails being white. While he was observing them he heard the faint sound of a bell. Moving closer to the front of the back he saw her Sopfina running for her life and one close behind and then it leaps at her.

"No!" Tesla quick loads his arrow and fires. The arrow manages to hit Wolfhound in the back of the neck and it tumbles to the ground. The other wolves stop running trying to identify the new threat. Sopfina stops running as well. This allows Tesla the time he needed to jump in front of her.

"Tesla!!" She says in tearful relief.

"Are you alright?" He says bow at the ready.

"Yes I'm okay"

"Good I'm here to rescue you."

Though he said that there were more of them than him and he had only 5 arrows left minus the one he had shot earlier.

The wolfhounds surround them in a semi circle. There are 6 in total.

The wolfhounds have shifted their focus to Tesla. As they have surmised that he was a bigger threat.

"What are going to do? You gonna fight them?. There's 6 of them you know." Sopfina says.

"Yes I know but there's not much choice. I cannot carry you after all."

That is when the first wolfhound attacks. Telsa puts it out of it's misery by putting an arrow in it's head.

Then another tries to leap at him and he rolls out the way firing an arrow into it's side. Two more charge at him he is able to put one of them down with a headshot but he is too slow to draw another arrow.

Unable to move holds out his palm

"Barrier!"

The barrier blocks the wolf. He disperses the barrier and fires his arrow into the Wolfhound. It goes down.

The remaining 3 realizing that Telsa was stronger than they thought they switch their focus to Sopfina. Two decide to charge at Tesla once again. The remaining wolf goes after Sopfina.

"Shit these damn wolves why are they so smart?" He thought frustratingly.

He decides to charge at the incoming wolves as well. He puts down one with an headshot and just before the remaining one could leap at him he jumps over it. Drawing his arrow in midair fires the the one going after Sopfina killing it. Landing with his back to remaining wolf is upon him. Tesla draws his hunting knife as he spins around slicing the wolf's throat as it leaps at him. Blood splattering accross his face as the wolf's body falls to the ground.

Putting his knife and bow away he walks over to Sopfina.

"Let's go home." He says holding out his hand.

"Okay."

Just then they hear a snarl and another wolfhound appears it was different from the others in size. The Alpha Wolfhound.

"Dammit I let my guard down."

Then an arrow pierces through the wolf's neck and he looks up. His father is standing on a tree branch bow and arrow in hand.

"Dad!"

His father leaps down and rushes over to them.

"You kids alright? Are you hurt anywhere?" He asked.

"Yes I'm fine father."

Then Sopfina suddenly breaks down crying.

"I was so scared. I thought I was gonna die." She says sobbing.

"It's okay you're safe now" Tesla's father says assuring her.

"Come on let's go home" he says.

"Dad how did you find us though?"

"Your necklace. It has magic within it. Your mother used that to track you."

"Really?"

"Yes. I'm lucky I got here in time." He says relieved.

On the way back home. Tesla came to a realization.

"This bow and arrow is good but it's not effective. It takes too long to load and shoot. Yes this won't do. If there had been more of them and if my father hadn't shown up in time I would have Sophfina and I would have been killed. It's time for a new weapon. It's time for me to make a gun."

When they return to the village. Sophfina received a scolding from her parents but ultimately they were glad she was safe.
