Once the crew had crossed the Fold, they began searching for a place to stay the night. They had found an inn nearby a local beer corner.
Sabo was glad that each of them had a separate room. Normally she would share one with Inej of Jesper, but she needed a break.
Sabo walked into her room for the night. It was a small bedroom with a queen-sized bed in it. A small side door led to the bathroom, a clock hanging above it.
The Inn certainly wasn't five stars, but it did the job.
She threw her jacket on the small desk when she heard a clang. She stepped towards the desk and examined her pockets. In one of the pockets, she found the silver wolf pin from the Drüskelle. She scowled at the piece and tossed it on her bed.
When Sabo found out that she was a Grisha she had been horrified. The Fjerdan system had made her believe that she was a monster, Sabo still thought of herself that way but after using her powers to escape the Ice Court and save her friends she had begun to look at it differently. She opened the small door towards the bathroom and rid herself of her bloodied shirt. She turned on the water tap, slowly washing away the black blood of the impaled Volcra.
After she had taken a shower to get rid of the blood in her hair, she heard someone pacing around in her room. She raised her eyebrow as she got dressed and opened the bathroom door, her hair still damp.
Kaz Brekker was sitting at the small desk the room had provided, his bad leg stretched in front of him. She tensed up, immediately assuming something was wrong. "What is it?"
Kaz glanced up at her, noticing her damp hair, he looked towards her leather jacket that was laying on the desk in front of him. "I need to know what you think of Visser."
Sabo frowned at him, glancing over at the clock that hung above the bathroom door.
"At this time?"
Kaz took off his coat. "Arken is with us the whole time, I can't ask you to tell me what you think of him while he's in hearing range."
"I think that he doesn't like me."
Kaz lifted his eyebrow at her. "You did try to kill him."
"Yes, but that it like what? Two nights ago?" she joked as she sat down on the bed, throwing off the comforter, knowing that no hotel ever washed those.
"How do you know him?" Kaz asked.
She crossed her arms, instantly suspicious. "Inej has already told you that."
Kaz was silent for a moment as he looked at her. "Were you actually going to kill him?" he asked.
"I was about to slit his throat before you and Inej came in." Sabo stated as she looked at the ground where she threw the comforter. Not understanding where the Drüskelle pin went.
"So, if I ask you to kill a man, would you do it?" Kaz asked her while following her movement, he knew what she was looking for.
"No." she lied. She would kill a whole city for him if he asked her to. It frightened her.
"But if Inej asks, you would, why is that?" he asked her, still sitting at the desk. His head tilted.
Ever since Sabo met Kaz she had felt comfortable in his presence. Now she felt as if she was under a magnifying lens, him observing her every move.
"Because her freedom was depending on it." she snapped as she lifted one of the pillows, where the hell did that pin go?
Something changed in Kaz his expression. "Are you familiar with that? Your freedom depending on someone else?"
