Her mother stopped struggling as they hit the water and as Sabo descended into the deep, she knew her mother was dead. Sabo didn't know why, but she kept holding onto her.

As they had hit the water a moment of absolute panic hit her. The water was freezing cold and they were descending into the deep too quickly. Sabo looked down and saw that her shackles were carrying them down into the darkness.

Sabo realized she hadn't activated her baleen yet.

She didn't know if she should, maybe drowning was the way to go, she didn't want to live long enough to find out what lay in the deep.

But she didn't want to go yet, her body was screaming for air so Sabo activated the baleen.

As the darkness surrounded her, she took back the knife from her mother's chest. Sabo checked her pulse, but there was none.

She had killed her mother.

Sabo tried to slow her breathing but panic overtook her.

Suddenly, she heard a voice.

'Why are your windows unlocked?'

Not a voice, a memory.

Kaz and Sabo had been hiding in her old apartment near the fighting pit after a successful job. Sabo's sight cleared as she took in the sight of him. He was standing before her window, observing the frames. Kaz wasn't facing her, all she could see was his long coat and the back of his head.

'Why are your windows unlocked?' he asked again as he looked at her sideways.

Sabo frowned as she followed Kaz's gaze to her windows.

'Oh,' Sabo spoke. 'Sometimes I forget the key to the front door.'

Kaz had looked at her as if she had grown two heads. 'Then you pick the lock, or you come back towards the Slat and ask me.' Kaz almost demanded as he walked away from the window.

Sabo watched as he walked through her apartment, the sound of his cane gave her a feeling of comfort as the cold of the water tried to drag her back to reality.

'I don't understand why you're still sleeping here instead of the Crow Club anyway.'

'I have my reasons.' Sabo muttered under her breath.

Kaz scoffed annoyed as he walked further into her apartment. He scanned every room, checking to see if anyone had gotten in. 'Enlighten me.'

'First of all, warm water...'

Kaz had stayed with her for a few hours before he returned to the Crow Club, and as she went to sleep that night, she saw that her windows were locked.

It had been the first time in years that she felt cared for and protected, that she had a sense of belonging.

Now, the only thing she had was a knife in her wounded hand and the darkness that surrounded her. The smile on her face faded as she looked up again, she saw a small light beam. If she didn't get out of the water now, it would be her final view.

Sabo tried with everything she had to get out of her chains, she stabbed the chain and tried to get underneath it with the knife but it wouldn't budge.

She was going to die.

But Sabo couldn't shake the feeling that there was a presence nearby. She didn't know if that was comforting or frightening.

The baleen dissolved and the water pressed at her lips, she looked up again and saw that the sun had set.
