The table they bound her to was cold, Sabo still couldn't feel her hands as she slowly opened her eyes.

'I was wondering when you'd finally wake up,' Cecilia spoke slowly.

No.

The mountain, the jump, Kaz grabbing her out of the water, had it all been a hallucination?

They were in her head, she couldn't go through this again.

Sabo clenched her jaw as she looked away from her mother. Cecilia grabbed her chin and turned Sabo's head towards her. 'This is not the time to look away,' Cecilia spoke sweetly as she pointed her head to the other side of the room.

Sabo frowned before she followed her gaze.

There was another table in the room.

Someone was lying on top of it.

Sabo's stomach dropped.

Kaz.

'I send my men back to retrieve him,' Brum spoke.

Sabo pulled at her restraints. This was not happening.

'Don't hurt him,' Sabo begged. 'You win,' she swallowed. 'You win, I'll cooperate, just don't hurt him.'

Brum walked to Kaz's unconscious body.

'Oh, you'll cooperate.' Brum stated. 'Just let me show you what happens if you don't.'

Sabo shot up from the bed she'd been lying in. The light blinded her as she felt the presence of a hand on her wrist.

Blindly, she grabbed the hand and pulled it past her. The person landed on the floor, and Sabo climbed on top of them.

'Sabo,' a voice spoke before Sabo placed the back of her arm on his neck.

Sabo's heartbeat was heavy as she realized where she was.

Then she felt it.

Pain. The new stitches on her back, her hands, the healing wound on her jaw.

The drüskelle weren't in her head, at least not now.

Sabo's vision cleared and she saw the person that was lying underneath her, she could feel the warmth radiating off of him. Sabo drew away her arm so the person could breathe.

'This is your plan?' Kaz rasped after he drew in a large breath. 'Killing me before the drüskelle can?'

Sabo narrowed her eyes at him as she tried to control her breathing again. 'I am considering it,' she hissed as she breathed heavily.

Kaz, she realized. It was Kaz.

Softly, Sabo grabbed his shoulder to make sure that he was real.

He was safe, he was here. Kaz took in a breath as he stilled under her touch.

'You're okay,' she breathed as she slowly relaxed. Kaz realized that his body was calming down too.

Their eyes met as their hearts beat in the same rhythm.

Sabo placed her hands on her hips. 'Why the hell would you sneak up on me like that?'

Kaz raised his brow. 'You were screaming, Sabo.' Kaz looked into her eyes and he cocked his head.

His eyes lit up. Scheming face, Sabo realized.
