Sabo thought she could walk to Black Veil, she had thought wrong.

She wasn't even four streets away from the fire when she needed a break. Sabo walked into the alley near the Guuscafé and leaned against the wall. The streets were abandoned as the sun rose.

The Guuscafé was a famous hangout place for students from Ketterdam University.

Sabo pulled her coat tighter around her body. Her head was pounding and her arm felt as if it was boiling from the inside.

The door of the café wasn't locked. She looked around her again before she pushed it open.

The kitchen was abandoned and the back of the café was warm. She grabbed an abandoned receipt from the table and a pen.

'Hope everyone is safe. I'll come to Black Veil in a bit.' she wrote.

She folded the small paper and placed it in her hand. She thought about Kaz, wanting the message delivered to him. She burned the paper and trusted the message to reach him.

Sabo wanted to resume her journey, but she passed out before she could.

---

Sabo was dreaming again.

'What, in Djels name, is wrong with you?' Linnea asked.

Sabo was standing in her family home. She was pouring herself a cup of tea with honey, trying not to spill any water on her soft blue dress.

Sabo turned to her sister, this was one of her last memories of her.

'What? No good morning?' Sabo laughed.

'Good morning. What the hell is wrong with you?'

Sabo took a sip from her drink before turning to her sister. 'You have got to be more specific, Lin.'

'You're engaged?' Linnea shrieked. 'And I had to hear it from his sister?!'

'I'm not engaged, Lin.' Sabo replied. 'We're going to see if we could have a future together.'

'That's basically engaged, Bel.' Linnea deadpanned.

'It's not.' Sabo replied again.

'With Matthias.' Linnea sighed again as she sat across her at the kitchen table. 'And you're going to leave me all alone.'

'Just because Dad is trying to secure a stable future for me doesn't mean that I'll leave you.' Sabo grabbed her hand. 'You know I'll never leave you, Lin.'

How wrong she had been.

Sabo was holding her hand, it felt so real. 'And who knows who you'll meet?'

She needed to wake up. She needed to stop longing for the past, stop longing for the love of her family that clearly didn't love her enough to fight for her.

'I'm never going to marry, Bel.' Linnea replied with a guilty expression on her face.

'Don't be silly.' Sabo said. The women in Fjerda are expected to marry whether they wish to or not, as lack of marriage is seen as an inconceivable shame. 'Djel will guide you, I'm sure of it.'

The memory suddenly faded and Sabo wasn't dreaming anymore. She opened her eyes and looked around her, she was still laying on the sofa. Next to her was a table with bandages and a knife. The bandages had been cut up.

She laid back down on the sofa again with a heavy heart.

'Are you okay?' a familiar voice asked.

Sabo froze, it couldn't be. She winced as she turned toward the soft voice.
