The mausoleum where they were supposed to be meeting at was dark.
Sabo let out a sigh of relief, happy to finally be at their destination.
Jesper, Wylan, and her stepped inside.
'Sabo?' a voice asked as Sabo took off her hood.
'Saints Inej!' Jesper cursed. 'Why are you sitting in the dark?'
Inej ignored him. She drew in a shocked breath as she took in Sabo's appearance. 'Are you okay?'
'Better now.' she replied, a small smile on her face.
'We had to run from the Tulips, Inej.' Jesper said. 'The Tulips.' he repeated for dramatic effect.
Sabo's eyes fell on Inej's sleeves, they were red.
'Are you okay?' Sabo asked pointing at her sleeves.
'Old blood.' Inej replied. Sabo swallowed painfully as she felt the pain in her arm returning.
'Where did you three come from?'
'I found her hanging out in a pub.' Jesper replied.
'Café.' Sabo corrected.
Inej observed her again. 'Can I get you anything?'
Sabo glanced toward the mirror that hung in front of the sink and knew that Jesper had been telling the truth.
Her lip was busted and her face was bloodied. Probably from her fall on the cobblestones. Sabo didn't want to see what she looked like underneath her bandages. The ache in her arm was almost unbearable.
'I can go and find Nina.' Inej said, seeing the discomfort on her face.
'No.' Sabo replied too quickly. 'I can heal the old-fashioned way. I just need some-'
'Write it down.' Inej said as she handed her a small pen and paper. 'I'll go and get it for you.' Sabo took it from her thankfully before trying to write. Fortunately for her, she was left-handed.
'And?' Jesper asked her while looking outside. 'Were the drüskelle Billie's friends?'
Wylan turned away from Jesper and looked at Sabo.
'Didn't get a chance to ask.' Sabo replied before turning toward Inej. 'I'm sorry for asking you to lie for me, Inej.' she said, a small tremble in her hands. 'It won't happen again.'
'I don't mind lying for you, Sabo. I just wish you would trust us instead of-'
Sabo stood up. 'I trust you, Inej.' She promised. 'With my life, I swear.'
'Don't mind us standing here.' Jesper interrupted.
'You too, Jes.' Sabo smiled as she rolled her eyes at him. 'And Wylan pretty much saved us back at the alley, so Wylan; thank you for joining the team. We'll corrupt you in any way we can.'
Wylan smiled. 'We're just happy that you're back.'
'Now we got that out of the way. Are you going to tell us who's after you?' Jesper asked.
'It's safer for all of you if I don't.' Sabo replied, knowing it had no use to keep up the act.
'Safer for us, or you?' Inej asked.
'Maybe both.' Sabo replied. A saying from her friend came to mind. 'Sometimes the only thing that the truth brings, is danger.' Sabo said.
'And I thought that Inej had the best Suli sayings.' Jesper replied. 'Was that Ravkan?'
